At the forefront of a generation of artists that are unapologetically revitalizing traditional narrative figurative painting through the lens of contemporary urban life, Brooklyn-based painter, Nina Chanel Abney, draws on animated cartoons, video games, hip-hop culture, celebrity websites, and tabloid magazines to create large-scale paintings and collages that are scathing commentaries on social attitudes and inequities.
