Exhibit: Paintings by Cecilia Brendel

Paintings by artist Cecilia Brendel will be on display on the second floor of the Dayton Metro Library, 215 E. Third Street, July 2 – 30. Brendel did a six-month study of Post Traumatic Stressed Disorder (PTSD) and depression, and spent time during Covid exploring area parks, hiking and painting simple landscapes.
“I found that the high chroma colors in paintings helped these individuals to overcome their situations, especially when combined with a contrast of intense dark,” she said. “I have had many people tell me that these recent paintings have given them feelings of hope and serenity.”
Born in St Louis, Missouri, Brendel studied Technical Illustration and Graphic Arts. Her early illustrating career led her into working for publishers designing book covers, illustrating children’s books and illustrating technical articles and other publications. She has painted scenery for Broadway sets, and created pieces for private and industrial clients worldwide.
“The world presents a wonderful variety of spiritual and natural imagery that I love to capture,” said Brendel. “My success is when someone has been inspired.”
