There’s always something fun going on downtown! Below you’ll find a list of events scheduled for today. Use the filters at the top to find events by date, keyword, and more. You can also view the calendar by month or as a list of 20 events at a time.
Have an event to submit to our calendar? If it is located downtown (within our service area) and open to the public, it’s likely we’ll include it. Send us your event info using our event submission form.

Illustrator Inspired Collages

Dayton Metro Library and the University of Dayton were selected by the Association for Library Service to Children to host the 2023 Children’s Literature Lecture featuring the award-winning illustrator and author Bryan Collier.
In honor of Collier’s visit, DML scheduled a selection of companion programs to be held at several DML locations. The following programs allow patrons to create their own inspired-by-Collier artwork and take it home or keep it at the Library for a display:

Additionally, student collages inspired by the art of Bryan Collier (completed during Library Outreach) will be displayed in the West Carrollton Branch through April.

- View a book display of Collier’s work and of books that influenced him as a child, and play word games and puzzles that highlight the author’s life: Monday, March 27-Saturday, April 1, during Library hours.
- Face Painting: Wednesday, March 29, and Saturday, April 1, 3-5 pm
- Collage Art: Wednesday, March 29, and Saturday, April 1, 4-5:30 pm
STEAM Supreme: Bryan Collier – Inspired Art
For ages 5+
Engage in science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities relating to Collier, and create art that will be on display for the month of April.

For Teens
Learn more about Collier and about the art process he uses to create art – then create your own unique work!
Burkhardt Branch
Thursday, April 27, 4:30-6 pm
Advanced registration is required for the ALSC Children’s Literature Lecture featuring Bryan Collier on Wednesday, April 12, 6-9 pm at the University of Dayton Kennedy Union Ballroom. A light reception will be held at 6 pm, and the lecture begins at 7 pm. Books will be available for purchase with a book signing after the event.
