DESCRIPTION:The Contemporary Dayton is proud to present new and recent work by two of the area’s most esteemed artists\, each and together exploring recent “crossroads” in their lives. The exhibition will feature Kadish’s evocative monotype and painted colorscapes paired with Leach’s abstracted landscape\, architecture\, and interior drawings and prints; as well as two new monotypes the artists created collaboratively for the exhibition.  \nBoth artists have exhibited widely and are featured in prominent public and private collections all over the world. Kadish is based in Yellow Springs and often collaborates with Lisa Mackie\, Master Prints\, NY. Leach is based in Dayton\, is Emeritus Professor\, Wright State University\, and an active member of the Dayton Printmakers Co-op.  \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, a selection of monotypes and prints by the artists will be available for purchase in The CoSHOP Pop-up Print Shop.

SUMMARY:Documentary & Discussion: Willis “Bing” Davis
DESCRIPTION:Free and open to the public! \nFew people have impacted the arts in Southwest Ohio quite like Willis “Bing” Davis. An African American artist\, educator and community activist from Dayton\, Davis’ artwork is known for its incorporation of African and African American themes\, as well as its focus on social justice issues. He works in a variety of media\, including painting\, sculpture\, ceramics\, clay and found object art. His art often explores the intersection of race\, identity\, and history\, as well as the power of community and collective action. \nAmong his works\, many have been featured in public and private collections alike from the United States\, Europe and China to Ghana\, Senegal and Nigeria with exhibits featured in the Museum of Harlem\, the African Craft Museum\, the Renwick Gallery\, the Dayton Art Institute\, and many more. He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career\, including the Ohio Governor’s Award for the Arts\, the Citizen Legion of Honor Award from the Presidents Club of Dayton\, and the Ohio Art Educator of the Year Award. \nIn addition to his artistic pursuits\, Davis is a dedicated community activist and educator. He founded the EbonNia Gallery in Dayton\, Ohio\, which showcases the work of many types of artists and serves as a community gathering place. DESCRIPTION:The Sinclair Community College Art Department proudly announces new exhibits featuring works from the Experiencing Veterans & Artists Collaboration (EVAC) Project and contemporary steel sculptures by artist Chris Mohler. \nThe exhibits will be displayed in the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery and the Works on Paper Gallery from November 8 through December 14\, 2024. The EVAC Project uses storytelling and art to bridge the gap between veterans and civilians. \nThrough the collaboration\, over 60 veterans share their life stories\, which are then interpreted into visual artwork by talented artists. As visitors explore these powerful stories alongside the artwork\, the exhibit fosters empathy and a deeper connection with the experiences of veterans. Chris Mohler’s collection of steel sculptures shares a common theme of personal storytelling. Each piece reflects a chapter of Mohler’s life\, inspired by topics such as current events\, human existence\, science\, politics\, personal joys\, sacrifices\, and social injustices. Mohler\, however\, encourages viewers to derive their own meanings from the works\, allowing for an open-ended exploration of the art. \nA virtual artist talk will take place on Thursday\, November 21\, 2024\, at 12:00 p.m. via Zoom.
