SUMMARY:Ernie Johnson from Detroit
DESCRIPTION:Ernie Johnson from Detroit\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 2 @ 7:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Admission\n\n\n/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeries:\n\n\n\n\nBrytus-Wilkinson Family Jazz Series \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre:\n\n\n\n\nJazz \n\n\n\n\n\n\nErnie Johnson From Detroit is a Cincinnati based band that blends afrobeat\, funk\, and jazz with 70s psychedelia and hard rock to create a hypnotic\, danceable sound that is both accessible and boundary pushing. Their stage show is a high-energy\, infectious dance party that centers on intense\, spontaneous improvisation combined with tight\, sophisticated compositions that live inside the groove. The band’s horn-heavy arrangements and relentless rhythm section allow for a variety of styles and a layering of dynamics in their improvised jams that make people want to move. \nProjects Unlimited & Wyse Family Foundation Gem Series Opener: MELINAMARIE

SUMMARY:Honoring our Veterans ft. Eric Jerardi Band
DESCRIPTION:Honoring our Veterans ft. Eric Jerardi Band\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 3 @ 7:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre:\n\n\n\n\nRock/Blues \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us this July 3rd for a special concert event honoring our veterans. This celebration will pay tribute to the brave people who have served our country. Montgomery County Veterans Services will be present\, offering information about their services. Enjoy an evening of live music\, community spirit\, and heartfelt gratitude as we come together to recognize their sacrifices and dedication. This concert is the perfect way to start your Independence Day celebrations! Don’t miss this opportunity to show your support and appreciation for our veterans on Independence Day. \nEric Jerardi has built his life at the crossroads of soul and storytelling. A Dayton\, Ohio native\, his music blends weathered truth and raw finesse—equal parts grit\, groove\, and grace. Since 1997\, he has released ten nationally distributed recordings\, each one a milestone in his evolution as a soul‑soaked blues‑rock artist. \nHis 2019 album Occupied—produced by the legendary David Z (Prince\, Etta James\, Jonny Lang) and recorded with the famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section—was hailed for its depth\, groove\, and emotional resonance. Critics called it a “low-key\, deeply felt masterpiece\,” and audiences across the country echoed that sentiment with standing ovations and lasting loyalty. Yet Eric’s art has never been about virtuosity—it’s about connection. The subtle inflection of a vocal line. The space between notes that speaks louder than any solo. He plays not to impress\, but to connect—and people feel it. \nAnd now\, with his upcoming album The Game\, Jerardi returns with something even more personal. It started with a nudge—or rather\, an ambush. \nA close musical friend\, refused to leave him alone. Relentless texts. Daily reminders. No escape. The challenge was deceptively simple: write 12 songs in 12 weeks. Every Wednesday morning\, a text arrived with a phrase that had to be used verbatim in that week’s song—phrases Eric would never have chosen on his own. Miss the deadline\, and you paid a fine. Miss too many\, and you were out. No polish required. Just honesty and accountability. \nWhat began as a game became a mirror. \nProduced by Michael James (Robben Ford\, Edwin McCain\, New Radicals) and featuring the iconic Muscle Shoals backing vocals of Cindy and Marie\, The Game is raw\, lean\, and unfiltered. It cost Eric twenty dollars\, a little sleep\, and a whole lot of truth. Worth every penny. \nBeyond the music\, Jerardi’s world continues to expand. At Jerardi’s Little Store in Dayton\, fans travel from across the country—and around the world—to meet him\, collect signed merch\, and have Eric personally select wines from his curated collection. That same spirit lives on in his YouTube series Backroom Blues & Bottles\, where stripped-down performances filmed in the store’s back room blend his two passions: music and wine. \nThrough it all\, Eric Jerardi remains guided by the same principle that’s shaped his entire career—connection. Whether through a lyric written under pressure\, a note held just long enough\, or a bottle poured across the counter\, he’s inviting people into something real. \nThe Game may have started as a dare. But Eric Jerardi played it exactly the way he always has—honestly\, fearlessly\, and all in.

SUMMARY:Liz Quay\, Jayne Struble\, and Kathy McGhee Art Exhibits
DESCRIPTION:The Sinclair Community College Art Department is pleased to present “Marks & Stitches” by Liz Quay & Jayne Struble in the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery along with “Printed Landscapes” by Kathy McGhee in the Works on Paper Gallery. Through the collaborative lens of “Marks & Stitches” Struble and Quay delve into the connections found in nature and the human body. Their collaboration is an exploration of the invisible ties that bind humanity together and highlight the beauty of interconnectedness. Struble’s graphite drawings of the landscape investigate the way visual artifacts\, such as images\, are a tangible yet fragile representation of one’s memories\, while Quay explores the tension and stagnation that is generated through managing emotional balance through fiber art and experimental sculpture. McGhee’s “Printed Landscapes” utilizes a variety of printmaking techniques to capture intimate moments of beauty in the landscape and explore the relationships between plants and the places they exist. She is inspired not only by the experience of being in nature but also by the visual patterns created through line\, texture\, and color as organisms naturally coexist. There will be a virtual artist talk via Zoom on Friday\, July 10\, 2026\, at 12pm. Visit www.sinclair.edu/artgalleries for details. The exhibitions will be on display from July 6–August 14\, 2026. Galleries are located on the fourth floor of building 13 (located at West Fifth and South Perry Streets). The galleries are free and open to the public from 8am–6pm Monday–Friday and 9am–12pm Saturdays. Free and accessible parking is located in Parking Lot K.

SUMMARY:Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears
DESCRIPTION:Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 9 @ 7:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Admission\n\n\n/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre:\n\n\n\n\nBlues/Soul \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen Covid sidelined his touring this past year\, Black Joe Lewis started laying concrete to help support his baby mama and his kid. When Joe and his band\, the Honeybears\, popped onto the national stage over a decade ago\, many critics embraced him but still\, there were some that maintained that they hadn’t paid their dues. Joe’s still here. Still going. Still cashing checks and snapping necks. The dues of hard work; the delirious heights of the industry as well as the disappointments and low hanging fruit. Through this all\, Joe’s only honed his mastery over gut bucket blues guitar and his true voice. It’s a vital and distinctly American voice that never anticipated the attention he wound up receiving\, never went looking for it either. It just started happening. The garage\, the blues\, the propulsive and synergistic live performances that inhabit the spaces of James Brown\, Lightnin’ Hopkins\, and the MC5…those things happened naturally from the very beginning and could only be accurately communicated in the live experience\, not a press release or a slick brand campaign. Sharon Jones\, Charles Bradley\, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin Malcolm\, The Dirtbombs\, Detroit Cobras\, the Strange Boys; these are some of the artists that Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears shared countless bills with; almost a roll call of the most influential soul and garage bands of the last twenty five years. Has the soul blues garage explosion from that era been commodified or worked into the overall template of pop rock? Sure. But the ground floor was a vital space for people that like guitars and grease and at this point Black Joe Lewis is one of the last standing that was there. Last of a dying breed. Or maybe a missing link. Does this make him a throwback? A throwback to a throwback? It’d be tempting and easy for Joe to go along with that but nah\, we don’t think so. We know that Joe Lewis is genuinely doing his thing and that he’d do it regardless of what’s coming down the pipe. A stone cold original and a veteran at that. If you like whistling in your music and some floppy hat\, quaky kneed dudes cloyingly singing at you\, then you might not “get it” but whatever…there are enough intrepid\, degenerate weirdos that do. Those are the folks Joe cares about. Not the glad handing set. Not the fair-weather friend set getting down with the flavor of the month. Like the title of his last album says\, “the difference between me and you” is Joe defining for himself that there’s the belabored wannabes and then there’s dudes that actually “HAVE the blues”…whatever the hell THAT is! Joe’s concrete pouring boss is gonna miss him. \nProjects Unlimited & Wyse Family Foundation Gem Series Opener: KHRYS BLANK – \nWith a voice that blends raw soul and radiant energy\, Khrys Blank is a singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist who’s sound blends the grit of blues\, the groove of funk\, and the edge of rock and R&B. Her music carries stories of depth and authenticity\, drawing listeners into a magnetic energy that’s impossible to ignore. All backed by a band of seasoned players who each bring their own authentic flavor and personal history to the music. \nAt the heart of it all is a deep love for rhythm—every beat\, every note\, and every moment creating a lasting experience.

SUMMARY:Steep Canyon Rangers
DESCRIPTION:Steep Canyon Rangers\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 10 @ 7:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Admission\n\n\n/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeries:\n\n\n\n\nTim Tye’s Midnight Sky Country/Americana Series \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre:\n\n\n\n\nCountry/Bluegrass \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteep Canyon Rangers arrive at a moment of renewal and reaffirmation with Next Act\, their 15th studio album set to be released May 22\, 2026. The record represents a conscious tightening of focus: a return to the bluegrass foundations that first bound the band together\, approached with the confidence and emotional range earned through years of collective evolution. It is an affirmation that bluegrass still contains endless expressive possibility. Next Act finds the Rangers sounding deeply at home in their own musical language\, drawing strength from tradition while continuing to write new chapters within it. \nFormed in North Carolina and shaped equally by the Appalachian Mountains and the Piedmont\, Steep Canyon Rangers have long occupied a singular space in American roots music. From their earliest recordings\, the band demonstrated an unusual ability to honor traditional bluegrass forms while allowing contemporary songwriting\, literary influence\, and regional storytelling to seep naturally into the music. Over time\, this balance earned them both bluegrass credibility and broader Americana acclaim\, culminating in a Best Bluegrass Album GRAMMY Award for 2013’s Nobody Knows You\, additional nominations for Rare Bird Alert (2012) and North Carolina Songbook (2020)\, and an induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. \nIn recent years\, as their audience expanded and their songwriting reach grew wider\, the Rangers began to feel a pull back toward the elemental forces that shaped them: acoustic instruments speaking clearly\, songs built for ensemble interplay\, and stories grounded in lived experience and regional memory. Next Act emerges from that impulse. \nSteep Canyon Rangers is made up of Graham Sharp on banjo and vocals\, Mike Guggino on mandolin/mandola and vocals\, Aaron Burdett on guitar and vocals\, Nicky Sanders on fiddle and vocals\, Mike Ashworth on drums\, dobro\, percussion and vocals\, and Barrett Smith on bass\, guitar\, and vocals. \nProjects Unlimited & Wyse Family Foundation Gem Series Opener: THE SHADY PINE

SUMMARY:Larry McCray
DESCRIPTION:Larry McCray\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 16 @ 7:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Admission\n\n\n/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre:\n\n\n\n\nBlues \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLarry McCray is a powerhouse bluesman with a soul-soaked voice\, blistering guitar chops\, and a story embodying the spirit of his music. With his new album Heartbreak City (out June 13 on Journeyman Records)\, McCray turns the page on a new chapter—raw\, joyful\, and deeply personal. Produced by blues-rock champions and Grammy Nominated duo Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith\, Heartbreak City finds the legendary singer and guitarist firing on all cylinders\, reconnecting with his roots while stepping boldly forward. \nFrom the first notes of the title track\, McCray reminds listeners why he’s long been hailed as one of the most expressive blues artists of his generation. Heartbreak City showcases Larry’s gritty vocals and searing guitar work\, evoking the decades he spent grinding it out in clubs\, pouring heartache and redemption into every solo. Elsewhere\, standout single “Bye Bye Blues” draws on McCray’s teenage years in Michigan\, when soul music still ruled the airwaves. Co-written with longtime collaborator Charlie Walmsley\, it nods to giants like Johnnie Taylor and Bobby Bland while delivering a sound all his own—grooving\, head-nodding\, and utterly timeless. “Bright Side\,” another standout\, was originally written for Bobby Bland and unearthed by Josh Smith\, who knew Larry was the one to bring it to life. With call-and-response choruses and sly humor\, the track leans into McCray’s knack for pairing deep emotion with irresistible swagger. \nThe album’s ten original tracks span from soul-infused ballads to roadhouse burners\, bolstered by a dream team of collaborators including Bonamassa\, Smith\, Kirk Fletcher\, Reese Wynans\, and a full horn section. McCray’s longtime partner Peggy Smith co-wrote several tracks\, adding emotional depth and lyrical resonance. Together\, they bring a lived-in perspective to songs like “Everything Falls On Me” and “Stop Your Crying”—testaments to weathering storms and emerging with strength. \nThe release follows 2022’s Blues Without You\, which marked McCray’s long-awaited return after a seven-year hiatus. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Blues chart and was named the #1 Blues Album of 2022 by Blues Rock Review\, solidifying his status as a torchbearer of modern blues. In 2024\, McCray was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame\, a testament to his deep roots in the state and his enduring impact on American music. Now\, Heartbreak City builds on that momentum. It’s a record that reflects Larry McCray at his most self-assured—grounded in tradition\, but more fearless than ever. \nBorn in 1960 in Smackover\, Arkansas\, McCray grew up steeped in gospel\, soul\, and the electric blues of the three Kings—B.B.\, Albert\, and Freddie. He moved to Saginaw\, Michigan at 12\, where he honed his guitar style by blending classic blues with the psychedelic edge of Hendrix and the southern fire of the Allman Brothers. After years of gigging while working a factory job\, he was signed in the late ’80s as the first artist on Virgin Records’ blues imprint Point Blank. His debut Ambition (1990) was followed by acclaimed albums like Delta Hurricane\, Meet Me at the Lake\, and Born to Play the Blues\, solidifying his role in defining modern blues-rock through the ’90s and early 2000s. \nOver the years\, McCray has played alongside a who’s who of music legends—B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Albert King\, the Allman Brothers\, Joe Walsh\, Jonny Lang\, Levon Helm\, and of course\, Joe Bonamassa. He was named Orville H. Gibson Male Blues Guitarist of the Year in 2000 and won the Top Guitarist prize in the International Blues Matters writer’s poll in 2014. \nBut accolades aside\, it’s the soul in McCray’s music that keeps fans coming back. “I feel totally reborn\,” he says. “This new album lets me show the full scope of what I do—it’s blues\, it’s soul\, it’s real stories. This is who I am.”

This is the “high lonesome sound” of\nAmerican roots music at its finest. \nJohn Jorgenson is a co-founder (with Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band. In 1990\, Jorgenson founded the Hellecasters and toured with Sir Elton John’s band for six years\, before later reuniting with John as lead guitarist for many European dates of the record-breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. An impressively eclectic range of artists including Sting\, Luciano Pavarotti\, Bonnie Raitt\, Billy Joel\, Barbra Streisand\, Bob Seger\, and Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson to be part of their own recordings and/or performances. Music legends and guitar greats such as Tom Petty\, Peter Frampton\, Tommy Emmanuel\, Duane Eddy\, Joe Bonamassa and Brad Paisley have also sung Jorgenson’s praises. Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds. In 2008\, Jorgenson won a GRAMMY® Award for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs. \nGRAMMY® Award Nominee Herb Pedersen is a former member of the Desert Rose Band\, legendary bluegrass band The Dillards and bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way\, among others. A sought after singer/songwriter\, musician\, and vocal arranger\, he has worked with such music legends as John Fogerty\, Tom Petty\, Mudcrutch\, Chris Hillman\, Linda Ronstadt\, Jackson Browne\, Emmylou Harris\, Gram Parsons\, Earl Scruggs\, Tony Rice\, Dan Fogelberg\, Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine\, Stephen Stills\, and John Denver. \nPatrick Sauber is a talented multi-instrumentalist who has quickly made a name for himself as a young performer in the world of bluegrass\, folk\, western and old-time music. Equally adept on guitar\, mandolin\, banjo and cajun accordion\, Sauber has played with Doc Watson\, Richard Greene\, Peter Rowan\, Tim O’Brien\, John Fogerty\, Laurie Lewis\, and John Reischman\, among others. Sauber played on the 2016 GRAMMY®-nominated album The Hazel and Alice Sessions by Laurie Lewis and appeared in the film A Mighty Wind with Christopher Guest. \nGRAMMY® Award-winning bassist and producer Mark Fain has recorded and performed with Bruce Hornsby\, Dolly Parton\, Loretta Lynn\, Tom Petty\, John Oates\, Alan Jackson\, Ry Cooder\, John Fogerty\, Chris Hillman\, Dwight Yoakam\, Alison Krauss\, Travis Tritt\, Joan Osborne\, The Chicks\, Martina McBride\, Rosanne Cash\, Jack Black\, and Cody Johnson. Fain previously was a longtime member of Ricky Skaggs’ band\, Kentucky Thunder. In addition to touring with J2B2\, Fain is a substitute player with the Grand Ole Opry house band in Nashville. \nJ2B2’s vastly acclaimed debut album\, From The Crow’s Nest\, was recorded at Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville\, Tennessee. The album was released as part of a John Jorgenson limited edition\, 3- CD box set calledDIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records). DIVERTUOSO includes three new distinct albums by Jorgenson: J2B2 – From The Crow’s Nest; John Jorgenson Quintet – Returning (gypsy jazz); and John Jorgenson – Gifts From The Flood (instrumental electric guitar). \nJ2B2 has toured around the world at famed festivals and theatres. The band has played the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville many times and headlined the star-studded Guitar Town Festival in Copper Mountain\, Colorado frequently. \nProjects Unlimited & Wyse Family Foundation Gem Series Opener: BERACHAH VALLEY

SUMMARY:Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice
DESCRIPTION:June 27–September 13\, 2026\, Gallery 120 \nWilliam H. Johnson (1901–1970) painted the Fighters for Freedom series in the mid-1940s as tribute to African American activists\, scientists\, teachers and performers as well as international leaders working to bring peace to the world. It was his last body of work. This landmark exhibition brings together—for the first time since 1946—34 paintings featured in the series\, drawn from the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM). This nationally traveling exhibition is accompanied by a scholarly\, full-color exhibition catalog. \nOf the series\, SAAM states: “The exhibition illuminates the extraordinary life and contributions of Johnson\, an artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance but whose practice spanned several continents\, as well as the contributions of historical figures he depicted. Some of his Fighters—Marian Anderson\, George Washington Carver\, Mohandas Gandhi\, and Harriet Tubman—are familiar figures; others—Nannie Helen Burroughs and William Grant Still\, among them—are less well-known individuals whose achievements have been eclipsed over time. Johnson celebrates their accomplishments even as he acknowledges the realities of racism\, oppression and sometimes violence they faced and overcame. Johnson clues viewers to significant episodes in the Fighters lives by punctuating each portrait with tiny buildings\, flags and vignettes that give insight into their stories. Using a colorful palette to create evocative scenes and craft important narratives\, he suggests that the pursuit of freedom is an ongoing\, interconnected struggle\, with moments of both triumph and tragedy.”

SUMMARY:Captivating Clay: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection
DESCRIPTION:April 13\, 2024–January 3\, 2027\, Gallery 106 \nToday\, Japanese ceramic artists are building on centuries of tradition and taking the art in dynamic and new directions. They are exploring the potential of clay to create both functional and abstract sculptural forms with an incredible range of surface textures and decoration. The aesthetic sensibilities are varied\, from rough and imperfect to detailed and refined\, but all show a mastery of the craft. \nDrawn from the renowned collection of Carol and Jeffrey Horvitz—including recent gifts from them to the museum—this exhibition presents more than thirty artworks spanning eight decades. Traditionally a craft restricted to men\, in recent years women have become some of the leading voices in the field and several examples are included. \nArtists range from innovative pioneers in the twentieth century\, several designated as Living National Treasures in Japan\, to emerging\, younger artists. Interspersed are examples from the DAI’s collection of historic Japanese ceramics. Across 2\,000 years\, these speak to the long history of the art in the island nation and their continued inspiration for artists today.
