SUMMARY:2025 McPherson Town Holiday Home Tour
DESCRIPTION:Ring in the holidays with a tour of historic Dayton homes during the 2025 McPherson Town Holiday Home Tour. Last held in 2023\, the popular event returns this year the weekend after Thanksgiving. The tour will be Friday\, Nov. 28 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday\, Nov. 29 from 3-7 p.m. \n  \n“This is a wonderful activity to share with family and friends visiting for Thanksgiving\,” said Jenny Cruz\, tour co-chair. \n  \nSeven historic homes featured on the guided walking tour include several houses not seen on tour for more than a decade. Tours are scheduled every 12 minutes and will accommodate 15-20 people. Guests will also make a stop in a dessert house for refreshments. \n  \nMcPherson Town\, known as ‘Dayton’s most neighborly neighborhood\,’ was one of the Gem City’s first suburbs platted by Samuel McPherson in 1845. It was declared a historic district in 1977 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. \n  \nThe neighborhood is known for its streetscapes of high style and Folk Victorian and Queen Anne architecture\, popular during the late 19th century. \n  \n“The McPherson Town Historic District has become one of Dayton’s most sought-after neighborhoods\,” said Cruz. “The residents are excited to show off their beautiful homes\, each one with its own story to tell.” \n  \nTickets for the timed tours are $20 in advance and can be purchased online at https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/2025-mcpherson-town-holiday-home-tour-2730169?aff=eivtefrnd&utm-campaign=social%2Cemail&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-source=strongmail&utm-term=checkoutwidget.  Some of the homes require navigating stairs. \nTickets are $25 if purchased the day of the tour at Ed Smith Flowers and Gifts\, 209 W. DESCRIPTION:Dayton Metro Library is launching a new storytime series called Hometown Heroes Family Storytime\, which will be held one Monday a month throughout the year in the Children’s Creativity Space at the Main Library\, from 5:30-6:30 pm. Kids of all ages and caregivers can enjoy fun-filled sessions with books\, songs\, and activities. Each Hometown Heroes session will also have a special guest reader from the Dayton area. The Hometown Heroes Family Storytime schedule is as follows: \n\nApril 7: Jeffery Mims\, Mayor of the City of Dayton\nMay 5: Dr. David Lawrence\, Dayton Public School District Superintendent\nJune 2: Mr. Moses Mbeseha\, co-founder of The Conscious Connect Community Development Corporation\nJuly 7: Rodney Veal\, an independent choreographer\, interdisciplinary artist\, educator\, and producer\nAugust 18: Willis “Bing” Davis\, an internationally recognized artist\, educator\, and community activist.\nSeptember 8: Jeff Jackson\, co-owner of the Wright Dunbar Cigar Shoppe in Dayton’s Historic Wright Dunbar District\nOctober 6: Michael Carter\, Senior Advisor to the President of Sinclair Community College\nNovember 3: Darius Beckham\, a former senior policy aide to the City of Dayton’s mayor.\nDecember 1: Carl Kennebrew\, International President of the IUE-CWA.\n\nThis Hometown Heroes series is part of DML’s Reading Railroad Initiative\, which aims to link DML’s communities through literacy. The initiative is dedicated to fostering a love of reading and learning for Black boys and young men. It offers storytelling experiences\, curated book selections\, signature events\, and mentorship from community leaders so that patrons are encouraged to view reading as a tool for self-discovery\, empowerment\, and lifelong success. \nAnother aspect of DML’s Reading Railroad Initiative is the Black Men Read–250 in 2025 Community Challenge. DML is calling on Black men across Montgomery County and beyond to inspire the next generation of readers by sharing the joy of storytelling with young children by becoming a “Reading Conductor” volunteer and/or logging their reading.
