SUMMARY:Closing Reception: Gretchen Durst Jacobs: What the Body Carries
DESCRIPTION:Member’s Spotlight Exhibition for Gretchen Durst Jacobs “My paintings begin with the body. I work at a scale that matches my full reach—fingertip to fingertip—so each mark records movement\, presence\, and intuition. The grid holds it all in place. It gives me something to push against. It’s not about control\, but containment—a way to hold chaos\, memory\, and motion all at once. Though my work is abstract\, it is shaped by 25 years of painting directly from observation. I grew up identifying birds\, plants\, and insects with my parents\, both musicians and amateur naturalists. Summers on my grandparents’ farm taught me to read the weather\, notice seasonal shifts\, and understand time as cyclical. These rhythms still guide me. Nature wasn’t just a backdrop — it was how I made sense of things\, especially while growing up with a mother whose moods were unpredictable and overwhelming. I watched how the land adapted: trees bending around fallen trunks\, still growing. I use color\, gesture\, and layered marks to process the full spectrum of lived experience – grief\, trauma\, joy and survival. Sacred geometry appears as a structing force\, a visual and emotional anchor. I am interested in how a line can hold chaos\, how paint can become a kind of memory. Everything I make is an attempt to reconcile feeling with form\, to honor what we carry\, to map what cannot always be said.” This event is FREE and open to all.

SUMMARY:Black By Popular Demand
DESCRIPTION:There are some Dayton Contemporary Dance Company dances that are requested time and again – audiences want\, once more\, to see the leaps that lifted them out of their seats\, the split-second timing that had them blinking with disbelief\, the moments that brought a tear\, followed by a shout of triumph. They want to re-hear those same songs\, and re-view those remembered moves that caused them to fall in love with DCDC. And DCDC is here to answer that request with BLACK BY POPULAR DEMAND — a soul-stirring return to the iconic works that define who they are. These are the dances audiences can’t get enough of — emotional\, high-impact\, and full of moments that lift you up and leave the room buzzing. At its heart is In My Father’s House\, a gospel-soaked celebration choreographed by Chief Executive & Artistic Director Debbie Blunden-Diggs. Set to the unforgettable sounds of Kirk Franklin and the Family\, it transforms the stage into a sanctuary where movement and music rejoice as one.

SUMMARY:Black by Popular Demand
DESCRIPTION:Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) presents BLACK BY POPULAR DEMAND – four powerhouse works that capture the heart of African American culture through movement. From the gospel celebration of In My Father’s House to the civil rights reflection of Martyr’s Road\, from the ancestral rhythms of WAWA ABA to the intimate connections of Call(ing)\, this concert delivers the emotional range and artistic excellence audiences return for again and again. \nThese are the works that make audiences lean forward in their seats\, tap their feet to the beat\, and feel their spirits stirred. Chief Executive & Artistic Director Debbie Blunden-Diggs’ In My Father’s House transforms the Victoria Theatre into a sanctuary with Kirk Franklin’s unforgettable gospel sound. Kevin Ward’s Martyr’s Road honors the unending march for justice through one family’s story. Stafford C. Berry Jr.’s WAWA ABA pulses with neo-traditional African dance and communal energy. Qarrianne Blayr’s The Call(ing) reminds audiences to answer the call — from loved ones\, from purpose\, from community. \nBLACK BY POPULAR DEMAND celebrates Black life\, love\, and liberation through dance that reflects on history\, speaks to the present\, and carries forward a legacy born during the Civil Rights movement. Part of the Dancing in Our Light season\, this concert invites audiences to witness artistry that resonates in the chest\, connects generations\, and reminds us why live performance changes everything. There’s something here for everyone – moments of joy\, reflection\, resilience\, and triumph that leave the theatre buzzing.

SUMMARY:Tony Foster\, Exploring Time: A Painter’s Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Tony Foster\, Exploring Time: A Painter’s Perspective\nFebruary 21–May 17\, 2026\, Gallery 120 \nBetween 2007 and 2025\, Tony Foster embarked on his 19th Journey\, building it around a profound and layered theme: time. Across this body of work\, he investigates how time shapes the land—from the quick shifts of light and weather\, to the slow rhythms of seasons\, to the immense scales of biological and geological transformation. As Foster explains\, his aim is “to draw attention to the unseen forces that create place.” \nExploring Time brings together a remarkable series of watercolor diaries that capture nature in motion. His paintings reveal signs of change on multiple fronts: geological upheavals\, biological cycles and the marks left by human activity. With a discerning eye\, Foster records not only nature’s strength and resilience but also its vulnerability\, even in landscapes once dominated by industry and later reclaimed. \nIn a world where environmental change is often conveyed through striking images of global warming\, Foster offers a different perspective\, one that considers Earth’s continual evolution and the visible traces of time’s passage. Organized into four themes: geological\, biological\, human and the fleeting\, this exhibition invites viewers to engage with time at every scale\, from the span of a moment to the stretch of millennia\, while reflecting on the enduring impact of human presence.

SUMMARY:Oregon Stories
DESCRIPTION:OREGON STORIES is a documentary created by John Bognar and John Mays in 2007 chronicling the rollicking history of Dayton’s Historic Oregon District. The doc traces the history of The Oregon District from its beginnings as the city’s first platted neighborhood\, providing housing for workers on the Miami-Erie canal\, through the prosperous 1800’s\, the 1913 flood\, the industrial era\, to the eventual blight of the 1950’s – 60’s.\nOREGON STORIES focuses on the period of renewal in the 1970’s when urban pioneers saved one of Dayton’s most unique neighborhoods. Full of great tales of people who lived it\, OREGON STORIES brings history to life with a rich cast of characters and raises important contemporary questions about the nature of community.\nSunday\, March 1 at 5:00. Tickets are $12.\nThe program will begin with an introduction by filmmakers John Bognar & John Mays\, and audience members can share their own “Oregon Stories” after the film.\nFilm-goers who want to continue the evening can call to make early dinner reservations at Jay’s Restaurant in the former Joseph Kratochwill’s Dayton Corn and Grist Mill which once connected to the Miami- Erie Canal\, now Patterson Boulevard.

SUMMARY:Sandra Aska\, Andy Holliday\, & Paul Rienzo Exhibits
DESCRIPTION:The Sinclair Community College Art Department is pleased to present works by Sandra Aska\, Andy Holliday\, and Paul Rienzo in the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery and Works on Paper Gallery. Capturing moments of perplexity\, quirkiness\, thoughtfulness\, and beauty\, Aska gives clay life through her figurative sculptures. Toolmarks and fingerprints left in the works imbue an expressionistic looseness to the forms. She works intuitively by allowing each form to emerge from the clay and invites the viewer to offer their own interpretation. Holliday’s non-representational prints stem from images that are observed\, recorded\, and repeatedly reprocessed through systems to alter them. Exploring the idea of attention as a measure of value\, he gathers an archive of media to process\, builds complexity\, and subsequently creates the final work through traditional printmaking techniques. Rienzo’s photorealistic still life paintings explore archetypal themes found across cultures and historical periods. The depicted objects are laden with symbolic power and when combined with others from differing cultures and eras\, explore the idea of untold myths and interconnectivity. There will be a virtual artist talk via Zoom on February 20\, 2026\, at 12pm. Visit www.sinclair.edu/artgalleries for details. The exhibitions will be on display from February 10 – March 13\, 2026. Galleries are located on the fourth floor of building 13 (located at West Fifth and Perry Streets). The galleries are free and open to the public from 8am–6pm Monday–Friday and 9am–12pm Saturdays. Free and accessible parking is located in Parking Lot K.

SUMMARY:Becoming: 70 Years of Growth\, Expression\, and Possibility
DESCRIPTION:Dayton Metro Library’s newest art exhibit\, Becoming: 70 Years of Growth\, Expression\, and Possibility\, will be on display Sunday\, March 1 – Tuesday\, March 31\, in the Main Library’s The 2nd Floor Gallery. \nBecoming celebrates the artists of United Rehabilitation Services (URS) and the ways creativity serves as a powerful form of communication\, identity\, and connection. \nFor 70 years\, URS has supported children and adults with developmental and acquired disabilities as they grow\, explore independence\, and express who they are. Their artwork reflects a journey of becoming\, not as a fixed destination but an ongoing process shaped by experience\, curiosity\, collaboration\, and self-expression. \nThe exhibit features a wide range of abilities\, styles\, and mediums. Some pieces were created individually\, while others were created collaboratively\, emphasizing the importance of community\, shared effort\, and collective voice. The scale of the work is intentionally varied\, ranging from small\, intimate pieces to large-format installations\, mirroring the diversity of expression within the disability community. \nPresented during Disabilities Awareness Month\, Becoming invites viewers to look beyond labels and assumptions to see creativity\, agency\, and possibility. Each piece tells a story\, not of limitation\, but of growth\, imagination\, and presence. \nFor more information\, visit DaytonMetroLibrary.org/Exhibits or call the Library’s Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.
