This exhibition follows Wyeth’s entire career and looks at a specifically darker thread within his oeuvre of troubling and unnerving imagery. Unsettled is divided into three distinct sections: “Strangers and Specters;” “Natural and Supernatural Worlds;” and “Haunted Places and Disturbing Spaces.” Drawn from museums and private collections from across the country\, the DAI is the exclusive Ohio venue and the final stop for this major traveling exhibition. Organized by the Brandywine Museum of Art.

DESCRIPTION:Dayton Metro Library is excited to partner with Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the University of Dayton to welcome 2016 Nonfiction Dayton Literary Peace Prize Winner Susan Southard to host a Dayton Literary Peace Prize 20th Anniversary Event on Thursday\, May 15\, from 6:30-8 pm\, at the University of Dayton Roger Glass Center for the Performing Arts. \n  \nSouthard’s winning book\, Nagasaki – Life After Nuclear War (2015)\, will be discussed in commemoration of the 80th remembrance of the dropping of the bomb on Nagasaki. She will take the audience through the days leading up to and following the event. Southard’s work makes a profound inquiry into the extremes of human violence and what it does to both victim and victimizer. \n  \nA reception will be held at 5:30 pm\, with the main event beginning at 6:30 pm. DESCRIPTION:Our artist-led workshops are designed to make community connections between our guests\, local artists\, and The Dayton Art Institute through conversation and artmaking. Flourish and Flow: An Oil Painting Journey Date: Thursdays\, April 10\, 17 and 24\, and May 1 and 8 – 5:30–7:30 p.m Cost: $100 for museum members; $125 for non-members Ages: 18+ In this multi-session workshop series\, local artist Jamaal Durr leads participants through an exploration of the fundamentals of oil painting. Sessions will focus on layering\, blending\, and texture while developing skills through the creation of personalized artwork featuring birth flowers. Jamaal Durr\, a Contemporary Artist\, is recognized for his figurative works that intimately blend reality and the surreal. Using materials like oil paint\, charcoal\, and graphite\, he explores themes of identity and self-reflection through his timely narratives. Jamaal has expanded his capacity within the realm of Art\, having also gained experience as a Curator\, Teacher\, and Muralist. Jamaal is primarily self-taught\, having only received a couple of years of formal training at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton\, OH and a brief stint studying architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn\, NY.
