SUMMARY:CoLab II
DESCRIPTION:Dayton Dance Initiative proudly presents COLAB II — back by popular demand after the success of Making Moves: The CoLab in 2023! Now in its seventh season\, DDI invites you to witness a dynamic celebration of creativity\, collaboration\, and community. \nPlease note\, one piece in this performance contains a single use of strong language and references to sexual violence. While the material is handled with care\, it may be distressing for some audience members. \nCOLAB II is a fusion of Dayton’s most vibrant multidisciplinary artists\, coming together to ignite the stage with six brand-new\, original dance works featuring live and original music\, costume design\, film\, creative non-fiction\, dramaturgy\, and more\, all crafted by the incredible talents living and working right here in our city. \nThis year’s powerhouse lineup of dancers\, choreographers\, and artists hails from iconic local institutions including Dayton Ballet\, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company 2\, Wright State University\, Cincinnati Ballet Academy\, University of Dayton\, Sinclair Community College\, Discover Classical\, and the Dayton Daily News. \nFueled by the generous support of the Montgomery County Arts District (MCACD) Special Projects Grant administered by Culture Works\, COLAB II is more than a performance — it’s a bold statement of artistic unity\, innovation\, and the boundless power of creative collaboration. \nJoin us and experience the magic — where dance meets every corner of Dayton’s artistic heartbeat.

SUMMARY:Reni Gower and Kate Santucci Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Sinclair Community College Art Department is pleased to present “GEOmatrix: a Perfect Proof” by Reni Gower in the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery and “Waxing On” by Kate Santucci in the Works on Paper Gallery. Gower’s “GEOmatrix: a Perfect Proof” recognizes geometric perfection as the matrix of humanity and the blueprint of the cosmos. Large hand-cut papercuts\, stencil-masked pulp paintings\, and machine cut vinyl decals are imbued with repetitive\, geometric pattens. These tessellations\, similar to decoration across many cultures\, offer a calming\, luminous\, and contemplative respite from these unprecedented times. Working with colored beeswax and resin layered with pigments and oil paint\, Santucci reveals and obscures symbols and images formed through drawing\, mark making and hand-cut stencils. The multi-layered encaustic works exhibited in “Waxing On” explore themes such as communication\, time\, place\, and the perception of the way things change\, both in the short and long term. There will be a virtual artist talk via Zoom on Friday\, May 23\, 2025\, at 12pm. Visit www.sinclair.edu/artgalleries for details. The exhibitions will be on display from May 19–June 23\, 2025. Galleries are located on the fourth floor of building 13 (located at West Fifth and Perry Streets). The galleries are free and open to the public from 8am–6pm Monday–Friday and 9am–12pm Saturdays.
