DESCRIPTION:Many of the places that helped make Dayton a center of innovation were lost to history\, while others survived and adapted\, representing the city’s spirit of revitalization. Some of the city’s distinctive and significant structures were demolished\, while others\, including the Dayton Arcade and Centre City Building\, saw challenging times but now await redevelopment. Explore and learn about the diverse selection of retail\, industrial\, entertainment\, and residential sites on this guided walking tour of Downtown Dayton. \nTours are available on Fridays beginning May 2 and run through October 2025. The cost is $10 per person and reservations are required to attend. \nOur guided downtown walking tours will launch promptly at 5:30 p.m. from the Dayton Arcade entrance on Fourth Street. This 90-minute\, 1.5-mile tour may be deemed strenuous by some\, and patrons should be able to walk/navigate city sidewalks and streets. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle if needed. Tours will launch rain or shine\, except in the event of thunder or lightning.

DESCRIPTION:THE NEON – Dayton’s independent\, arthouse cinema – will soon be hosting “Friday Night Patio Parties” on their recently renovated patio. Beginning June 13 and running through August 15\, each week’s party\, hosted by “Celebrity Guest Hosts\,” goes from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. and features music\, à la carte drinks from THE NEON’s patio bar and food from a local food truck. These weekly patio parties are made possible by the generous sponsorship of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Professional Realty. \nGuest hosts for these parties include team members from Berkshire Hathaway\, representatives from Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and Generation Dayton\, The RubiGirls\, Discover Classical – Dayton Public Radio\, Amelia Robinson & Anthony Shoemaker\, representatives from various local theatre groups\, and former Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin.  DJs spinning music throughout the summer will include DJ Luke Tandy\, man dies.\, J[REDACTED]\, and Mike7.  And lastly\, food will be available each week via local food trucks including Bourbon On The Street\, Freakin’ Rican\, Bald Head Tone’s\, Showdog Hotdogs\, and De’Lish.  THE NEON’s social media pages and weekly newsletter are the best places to find up-to-date details about each week’s party. \nIn May\, THE NEON announced the name of their expanded patio – “The Eichelberger Foundation Patio.” This expansion received a lead grant of $75\,000 from Jack W. and Sally D. Eichelberger Foundation of the Dayton Foundation.  \nImprovements included: \n\nThe expansion of the ground level patio and the building of an upper-level terrace\nAn awning to provide shade (Tensile Structure Systems\, Inc – Baltimore\, Maryland)\nA new sound system\, security cameras and improved lighting\nNew patio furniture\n\nThese improvements will enhance the outdoor experience for THE NEON’s patio guests and have already created an attractive addition to a busy downtown intersection. \nJonathan McNeal\, THE NEON’s General Manager\, expressed his thanks for the grant.  “Because of the generosity of Jack W. and Sally D. Eichelberger Foundation of The Dayton Foundation\, THE NEON patio experience will only get better and allow us to expand our programming.”  Besides the Friday parties in the summer\, the patio hosts numerous events tied to special screenings and a welcoming place to enjoy a drink and popcorn before or after seeing a film. \nThis is the second grant made by the Foundation to THE NEON. DESCRIPTION:Gem City Roller Derby is a women’s flat track roller derby team based in Dayton\, Ohio. GCRD is a skater-owned and operated non-profit that was founded in Dayton in 2006. As a registered 501c3 non-profit organization\, all funds raised go directly toward supporting the league and the local community. Dayton’s number of league members fluctuates\, but averages out around 60 skaters and 80 total members\, including coaches\, officials\, and volunteers. Gem City plays nearly year-round\, fielding its competitive travel teams (Purple Reign and Violet Femmes). As well as our recreational team\, Purple Haze. Check out our family friendly upcoming events to attend a bout and see us play in person! Roller derby is an athletic pursuit of skating fast and hitting hard. Using quick thinking strategy to gain the most points to win the bout\, all while avoiding time in the penalty box. Influenced by iconic bands like Van Halen and Led Zeppelin\, Doug formed his first band post-high school and eventually immersed himself in blues\, inspired by legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan. In 1998\, he founded the Doug Hart Band (DHB)\, which has become a staple in the southwest Ohio blues scene\, competing in the International Blues Challenge and performing at renowned venues such as Buddy Guy’s Legends and B.B. King’s in Memphis. Doug released his debut album “Reckless Life” in 2005\, with a follow-up in progress. The current DHB lineup includes Rob Thaxton on bass and Craig Comer on drums\, promising a dynamic blues/rock experience. \n \nShaun Booker Dammit Band: Shaun Booker\, a Columbus\, Ohio-based singer/songwriter and international recording artist\, draws inspiration from her spiritual and blues roots. Known as “The Empress of Beale Street\,” she has been inducted into The Columbus Blues Hall of Fame and won the 2023 Columbus Blues Challenge. Her band\, The Shaun Booker Dammit Band\, was a top 5 finalist at the 2024 International Blues Challenge\, promising to captivate audiences with their soulful blues performances. \nAnthony Gomes: Anthony Gomes\, a Canadian vocalist\, guitarist\, songwriter\, and producer\, electrifies blues and rock with his powerful performances. Known for his fret-burning guitar skills\, he has topped the Billboard Blues Chart\, earned endorsements from legends like B.B. King\, and performed globally. His latest album\, “High Voltage Blues\,” showcases his unique blend of blues and rock. Gomes has shared the stage with icons such as Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa\, and his music continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
