DESCRIPTION:Offered by Immortal Tree Qigong. Each hour-long Tai Chi & Qigong session will start with breathing exercises\, warm up\, and gentle stretching. Kayakers launch from under the Riverside Bridge along the Great Miami Recreational Trail\, and the cost to participate is $15 per person per hour. Taiter’s Kayak Solutions staff will provide participants with brief instructions prior to entering the water – including a safety tutorial – and will help participants get into their vessels. All participants will be required to wear a properly fitted life jacket. Swimming is prohibited in the Great Miami River\, but participants should come prepared to get wet. Participants will also not be permitted to go through the RiverScape River Run whitewater feature. No lifeguards are on duty\, and paddling is at all participants’ own risk. All participants will be required to sign a waiver before entering their vessel\, and all minors must have a parent/guardian present. SUMMARY:Heidi Brueckner and Jennifer Scheuer Exhibits
DESCRIPTION:The Sinclair Community College Art Department is pleased to present work by Heidi Brueckner and Jennifer Scheuer in the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery and Works on Paper Gallery. Inspired by observing others as a way to understand ourselves\, Brueckner creates intricate portraits filled with color\, pattern\, texture\, and a variety of recycled materials. These works produce narratives which explore personage through self-presentation\, facial expressions\, and gesture. They inspect the under-revered and appreciate the subject’s presence and dignity\, not only honoring the individual\, but the earth and humanity as a whole. Scheuer addresses ideas of healing\, the body\, plants\, and the history of medicine through printmaking. Much of her work responds to the historical idea of the Doctrine of Signatures\, which suggests visual or sensory properties of plants correlate to healing properties. Additionally\, she explores sequential imagery\, narrative complexity\, and play through artist books with their interactive\, sculptural\, and time-based qualities. There will be a virtual artist talk via Zoom on Thursday\, August 7\, 2025\, at 12pm. Visit www.sinclair.edu/artgalleries for details. The exhibitions will be on display from July 1–August 9\, 2025. This is a catch and release tournament only. Anglers can fish anywhere on the Great Miami River. There is no better river for smallmouth bass fishing! Win prizes for your record catch. During the tournament\, anglers will use the iAngler Tournament app to photograph their catch and record basic information while on the water. All Ohio fishing regulations apply. DESCRIPTION:What is Out on 5th? \nOut on 5th is the street closure of Fifth Street in the Oregon District of downtown Dayton on weekends. \nClosing down Fifth Street from Patterson Boulevard to Wayne Avenue every Friday night through Sunday evening allows\nour business district to open up the street for guests to shop – dine – and relax in the open air. \n\n\nOut on 5th gives restaurants and bars in the district room to expand patio seating into the streets. \n\n\nFifth Street is filled with public seating to allow guests room to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. \n\n\nRetail shops can use extra sidewalk space in front of their business for sales. DESCRIPTION:Gem City Roller Derby is a women’s flat track roller derby team based in Dayton\, Ohio. GCRD is a skater-owned and operated non-profit that was founded in Dayton in 2006. As a registered 501c3 non-profit organization\, all funds raised go directly toward supporting the league and the local community. Dayton’s number of league members fluctuates\, but averages out around 60 skaters and 80 total members\, including coaches\, officials\, and volunteers. Gem City plays nearly year-round\, fielding its competitive travel teams (Purple Reign and Violet Femmes). As well as our recreational team\, Purple Haze. Check out our family friendly upcoming events to attend a bout and see us play in person! Roller derby is an athletic pursuit of skating fast and hitting hard. Using quick thinking strategy to gain the most points to win the bout\, all while avoiding time in the penalty box. Influenced by iconic bands like Van Halen and Led Zeppelin\, Doug formed his first band post-high school and eventually immersed himself in blues\, inspired by legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan. In 1998\, he founded the Doug Hart Band (DHB)\, which has become a staple in the southwest Ohio blues scene\, competing in the International Blues Challenge and performing at renowned venues such as Buddy Guy’s Legends and B.B. King’s in Memphis. Doug released his debut album “Reckless Life” in 2005\, with a follow-up in progress. The current DHB lineup includes Rob Thaxton on bass and Craig Comer on drums\, promising a dynamic blues/rock experience. \n \nShaun Booker Dammit Band: Shaun Booker\, a Columbus\, Ohio-based singer/songwriter and international recording artist\, draws inspiration from her spiritual and blues roots. Known as “The Empress of Beale Street\,” she has been inducted into The Columbus Blues Hall of Fame and won the 2023 Columbus Blues Challenge. Her band\, The Shaun Booker Dammit Band\, was a top 5 finalist at the 2024 International Blues Challenge\, promising to captivate audiences with their soulful blues performances. \nAnthony Gomes: Anthony Gomes\, a Canadian vocalist\, guitarist\, songwriter\, and producer\, electrifies blues and rock with his powerful performances. Known for his fret-burning guitar skills\, he has topped the Billboard Blues Chart\, earned endorsements from legends like B.B. King\, and performed globally. His latest album\, “High Voltage Blues\,” showcases his unique blend of blues and rock. Gomes has shared the stage with icons such as Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa\, and his music continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
