SUMMARY:Exhibit: Appropriate Everything
DESCRIPTION:The Sinclair Community College Art Department is pleased to present “Appropriate Everything” by Darren Haper and John Sousa in the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery and Works on Paper Gallery. “Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal.” -T.S. Eliot The large paintings featuring white backgrounds and a knocked-together magazine collage vibe in “Appropriate Everything” takes the “great artists steal” adage and looks at it from several angles. Using a shared set of imagery “appropriated” from the Internet\, both Haper and Sousa create their own body of work by “stealing” materials and techniques from the other. Despite covering common visual ground\, the work lays bare the stylistic distance between both artists. There will be a virtual artist talk via Zoom on Wednesday\, November 19\, 2025\, at 12pm. Galleries are located on the fourth floor of building 13 (located at West Fifth and Perry Streets). The galleries are free and open to the public from 8am–6pm Monday–Friday and 9am–12pm Saturdays. DESCRIPTION:It’s Christmas time and The Wassail Warblers\, a group of long-time friends and semi-committed amateur carolers\, are making their annual rounds of holiday cheer. Armed with matching scarves\, an curated setlist\, and exactly one person who can actually sing\, they’re determined to brighten their town with off-key classics and questionable choreography. Midway through “Good King Wenceslas\,” one of the carolers slips away. But when they’re still missing by dessert\, the group begins to panic. Can you solve the mystery? Join us for holiday fun and see. Join Mayhem & Mystery for their always popular interactive Holiday Who-done-it? Seating begins at 6:45 when salads and bread are served. Dinner (several choices) arrives after Act 1 is finished. Act 2 finishes with a dessert (full-sized\, several choices) and a call to write down your thoughts on the crime. Solutions are revealed in Act 3 followed by prizes recognizing the three most correct answers and the three most entertaining (cast choice). Show runs Mondays\, November 10\, 2025 – January 26\, 2026\, plus Wednesday\, December 10\, and Fridays\, November 14\, December 26\, and January 9. DESCRIPTION:Dayton Metro Library is launching a new storytime series called Hometown Heroes Family Storytime\, which will be held one Monday a month throughout the year in the Children’s Creativity Space at the Main Library\, from 5:30-6:30 pm. Kids of all ages and caregivers can enjoy fun-filled sessions with books\, songs\, and activities. Each Hometown Heroes session will also have a special guest reader from the Dayton area. Registration is not required. The Hometown Heroes Family Storytime schedule is as follows: \n\nApril 7: Jeffery Mims\, Mayor of the City of Dayton\nMay 5: Dr. David Lawrence\, Dayton Public School District Superintendent\nJune 2: Mr. Moses Mbeseha\, co-founder of The Conscious Connect Community Development Corporation\nJuly 7: Rodney Veal\, an independent choreographer\, interdisciplinary artist\, educator\, and producer\nAugust 18: Willis “Bing” Davis\, an internationally recognized artist\, educator\, and community activist.\nSeptember 8: Jeff Jackson\, co-owner of the Wright Dunbar Cigar Shoppe in Dayton’s Historic Wright Dunbar District\nOctober 6: Michael Carter\, Senior Advisor to the President of Sinclair Community College\nNovember 3: Darius Beckham\, a former senior policy aide to the City of Dayton’s mayor.\nDecember 1: Carl Kennebrew\, International President of the IUE-CWA.\n\nThis Hometown Heroes series is part of DML’s Reading Railroad Initiative\, which aims to link DML’s communities through literacy. It offers storytelling experiences\, curated book selections\, signature events\, and mentorship from community leaders so that patrons are encouraged to view reading as a tool for self-discovery\, empowerment\, and lifelong success. \nAnother aspect of DML’s Reading Railroad Initiative is the Black Men Read–250 in 2025 Community Challenge. DML is calling on Black men across Montgomery County and beyond to inspire the next generation of readers by sharing the joy of storytelling with young children by becoming a “Reading Conductor” volunteer and/or logging their reading.
