Regular walk-up rental hours will take place Tuesdays from 2-6pm and Thursdays from 4-8pm\, June-October. Launch from under the Riverside Bridge along the Great Miami Recreational Trail. The cost to participate is $12 per person per hour. Taiter’s Kayak Solutions staff will provide visitors with brief instructions prior to entering the water\, which will include a safety tutorial\, and help visitors get into their vessels. All visitors will be required to wear a properly fitted life jacket. Swimming is prohibited in the Great Miami River\, but visitors should come prepared to get wet. Those renting will not be permitted to go through the RiverScape River Run whitewater feature. No lifeguards are on duty\, and paddling is at all visitors’ own risk. AND AMY DEAL\n\nAUGUST 29 – 30 \n Jamele Wright Sr. is an Atlanta-based artist originally from Dayton\, OH\, and Amy Deal\, a Dayton-based artist who has called Dayton home for the past 36 years\, will showcase their work together in the upcoming exhibition\, happenStance. \nThe two artists met by chance this past spring in South Carolina at an art opening at Summerville’s Public Works Art Center. Their immediate connection\, coupled with their shared roots in Dayton\, led to a collaborative opportunity. Wright expressed his interest in exhibiting in Dayton\, and Deal\, who had an exhibition scheduled\, extended an invitation for him to join her. \nhappenSTANCE \nDSA Gallery\, 48 High Street\, Dayton \nThursday\, August 29\, 5-8:00 PM \nFriday\, August 30\, 5-8:00 PM (artist talk 6:00) \nSaturday\, August 31\, 1-4:00 PM (workshop 11:00 by reservation) \nJamele Wright Sr. (born 1970 Dayton\, Ohio) is a mixed media artist whose work explores the Black American vernacular experience. Using found materials\, Georgia red clay\, and Dutch Wax cloth\, Wright delves into themes of family\, tradition\, and the spiritual and material relationship between Africa and the South. His process is influenced by Hip Hop’s practice of sampling\, remixes cultural elements to create narratives reflecting the African diaspora and the Great Migration. \nWright earned his B.A. in Art History from Georgia State University and him M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan\, NY. He has participated in residencies at MASS MoCA and the Gibbes Museum. \nAmy Deal (b. 1966\, Cranberry Prairie\, OH) grew up in a rural setting\, collecting wildflowers to create pigments and using art to enhance her surroundings. She holds a BFA in Visual Communications from Kent State University and has worked as a creative director on corporate branding and advertising campaigns. After taking time off to raise her children\, Deal renewed her focus on painting. Her current series\, Forest Bathing\, inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku\, emphasizes nature’s calming effects. Deal has recently completed residencies in South Carolina and Brooklyn Navy Yard.

DESCRIPTION:Tonya is a much sought after psalmist who ministers the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ across the country. Under her own independent production company\, she has released projects – “Life In Him” and “Since He Came In”. Her third release entitled “The Live Encounter”\, distributed by Universal© Music Group was produced by Grammy winning producer\, Myron Butler. Most recently\, she released a soulful Christmas EP\, “Merry Christmas Baby II” featuring holiday classics and originals produced by Demetrius “D. Bizzy” Smith. \nAs a teacher and instructor\, she has used her experience as a psalmist to help develop others via workshops\, conferences and other educational forums throughout the country. A published author and writer of “Worship Beyond the Song – a Psalmist’s Perspective”\, as well as a songwriter\, Tonya has penned songs for such award winning artists B.Slade (formerly Tonex)\, Helen Baylor\, Sherri Moffett-Jones and the incomparable\, Kim Burrell. Her background vocal credits include the likes of Byron Cage\, Percy Bady\, and Lisa McClendon just to name a few. \nTonya has shared the stage alongside award winning artists Shirley Caesar\, CeCe Winans\, Fred Hammond\, Israel Houghton\, Dorinda ClarkCole\, Mary Mary and Tye Tribbett to name a few. Along with national stage recognition\, she has traveled internationally\, having completed two 15-city tours to France and music festivals in Guadeloupe. \nTonya was a featured artist on the song “Great is the Lord” from the Grammy® nominated project\, Make Room by Grammy® winning artist Jonathan McReynolds. She has also been featured on projects from Phil Tarver\, The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship\, Joe Pace\, and Oscar Williams. \nTonya has also made appearances on Bobby Jones Gospel (BET Network)\, The Gospel SuperFest\, The Dorinda Show and Praise the Lord (TBN). Tonya currently serves as the Worship Volunteer Director at The Potter’s House of Dallas\, pastored by New York Times Best Selling Author and media mogul\, Bishop T.D. Jakes. Tubbs as its next Social Justice Speaker in The Deeper the Roots – Striving for Universal Basic Income (UBI) on Thursday\, September 5\, in the Main Library’s Eichelberger Forum\, from 6-7:30 pm. \n  \nTubbs will discuss the importance of UBI\, what it is\, how it can benefit the U.S.\, and what we can do to implement it. UBI is a proposition that the U.S. government give adult citizens a set amount of money without the basis of wealth or employment as a condition – in hopes of reducing poverty and helping citizens meet their basic needs. \n  \nAt the age of 26\, Tubbs was elected the Mayor of Stockton\, CA\, in 2016 – making him the city’s first Afro-American mayor and the youngest mayor of any major city in U.S. history. In 2021\, he released his book\, The Deeper the Roots: A Memoir of Hope and Home. FAMILY GALLERY\nTHE IRA & SUSAN THOMSEN FAMILY GALLERY \n\n\n\n\nSEP 6 – DEC 21\, 2024\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDayton native\, Curtis Mann\, returns home to present an experimental new body of work inspired by reflections on his childhood attending Parochial schools\, his mother’s Catholic funeral services this past May\, and the challenges he faced hiding and then embracing his atheism. Using a mixture of personal family photographs\, found\, and AI-generated images\, Mann has cut and affixed them to shards of glass to create sculptural collages. The work presents us with questions about what a photograph is\, about the precarious space between the image and the object\, and about the larger ideas of absolute faith\, its teachings\, and leaders. The work also serves as a love letter to his mother and his own feelings of mortality. Curated by Jeffrey Cortland Jones. \nMann is a graduate of the University of Dayton\, where he worked under the mentorship of Sean Wilkinson\, whose work is on view in the companion exhibition\, Flora\, also on view.
