SUMMARY:Hot Toddies Jazz Band with Hannah Gill
DESCRIPTION:THE HOT TODDIES JAZZ BAND are a fun-loving hot jazz & swing band from NYC. They have an eclectic mix of styles perfect for dancing\, lindy hop\, and good times! \nThe band has quickly become one of the top swing bands on the scene in NYC\, the birthplace of the dance. They most recently headlined the beloved outdoor swing dance at Lincoln Center in front of over 2\,000 people during “Summer for the City” (formerly Midsummer Night Swing) on July 6\, 2023. This also was the pre-release of their debut full length album which came out on July 28th on all digital platforms. The album was not only praised by critics\, but was on the Jazz Charts for 4 weeks\, hitting #11 on the NACC Top 30 Jazz Chart\, and playing on over 50 radio stations nationwide. \nAdditionally they perform at top venues around town such as The Blue Note Jazz Club\, The Plaza Hotel\, The Whitney Museum\, The Public\, The Players Club\, The Montauk Club\, and The Standard\, among others. Their acclaimed weekly residency at GOTHAM JAZZ started in May 2022 at remains strong at the popular nightclub\, Somewhere Nowhere\, often pulling 300-400 guests per night. They also have performed at Prohibition Production’s sold-out Mardi Gras\, Mad Hatter’s Ball and Gotham Jazz Festival; International Lindy Hop Championships “After Party”(ILHC 2022)\, the Cornell University Swing Weekend in 2022-2024\, The Back Room (NYC’s last Prohibition-era speakeasy)\, among others. On tour they’ve played at Glen Echo Park in Washington DC with Gottaswing\, the Avalon Theater in Maryland\, and The 2022 Mexican International Hot Jazz Festival. \nThe band also plays at exclusive private\, holiday & corporate events for clients such as The Whitney Museum\, BizBash\, Nice Ltd\, The Red Cross\, The Public Hotel\, BNI\, St Johns University\, Mann Investments\, and VIP nightclub openings for Somewhere Nowhere and Elsie Rooftop. \nWith the release of The Hot Toddies’ 2021 debut EP\, their wacky music videos for “Dunkin Bagel” and “Five O’clock Coffee” both hit over 100k views on Facebook\, while the band also has several videos with over 10k views on YouTube. DESCRIPTION:Dayton Metro Library continues celebrating the 70th anniversary of historic Civil Rights court case Brown v. Board of Education with a series of commemorative discussions – the first being Historical Context & Local Impact. This program will be held on Tuesday\, September 10\, from 6-7:30 pm in the Main Library’s Eichelberger Forum. \n  \nIn the early 1950’s\, Reverend Oliver L. Brown\, along with a team of attorneys for the NAACP and 12 other parents\, along with cases from several other states\, filed a suit on behalf of their children against local boards of education for segregating public schools\, which became known as Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka\, Kansas. The Supreme Court eventually ruled that separating children in public schools on the basis of race was in violation of the 14th Amendment\, making the act unconstitutional. \n  \nRev. Brown passed away in 1961 before knowing the impact this case would have on the nation. In May\, Rev. Brown’s daughter\, Cheryl Brown Henderson\, visited DML as part of its Social Justice Speaker Series to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. DML continues honoring the legacy of Rev. Brown and others involved in this landmark case by hosting this special series. \n  \nHistorical Context & Local Impact will host a panel discussion with guests providing their perspectives\, anecdotes\, and historical insights into the importance of this case in Civil Rights history. Panel guests include Charlotte McGuire\, Ohio State Board of Education Representative\, District 3; Dr. David Lawrence\, Dayton Public Schools Superintendent; and Mattie White\, 1st Vice President NAACP and President of National Council of Negro Women\, Inc. DML’s Karen D. Brame of Special Collections will moderate the conversation. \n  \nThis is a free event for adults\, and registration is not required. The band consists of three members and released their second album\, New Game+\, on January 20\, 2023. The 13-song album is a concept album about the band being trapped in a video game controlled by a malicious AI called “Plus”. Each song on the album represents a boss that the band must defeat\, and each boss represents a different fear or anxiety that the band members must overcome to grow as people. The band members say that they love video games and that the band is a way for them to express their passions.”

DESCRIPTION:Projects Unlimited Gem Series Opener Guitars4Heroes\nThe Dayton Guitars 4 Heroes Band was established in January 2019. The G4H Band plays a variety of classic rock\, classic country\, and patriotic music. The G4H Band is a non-profit\, all-veteran band with exception of one person. Al Jones\, drummer\, and vocals\, has volunteered his time from the beginning for all weekly rehearsals and all our shows. He said “This was just the way to give back.” The other band members are Ron Burns\, rhythm guitar\, vocals\, Art Nitsch\, bass guitar\, vocals\, Mike Collins\, lead guitar\, backup vocals Jerry Greer\, rhythm/lead electric guitar\, Karen Nitsch\, vocalist\, and percussion. All these 5 are military veterans who also volunteer their time to give back to raise money to support the Rec4Heroes/Dayton Organization.
