DESCRIPTION:June 12-September 12\, 2026 \nThreads of History: Quilts by Carolyn Mazloomi is a landmark solo exhibition by award-winning artist\, historian\, and curator Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi. Now an octogenarian\, Mazloomi remains one of the most visionary leaders in contemporary quilting\, widely recognized for her lifelong efforts to elevate African American quilt traditions. Her striking black-and-white quilts memorialize the lives and legacies of African American freedom fighters\, capturing resilience\, resistance\, and remembrance through bold imagery and layered narrative. Originally trained as an aerospace engineer\, Mazloomi shifted her focus in the 1980s to advocate for African American quilt artists whose contributions had long been marginalized. Through her scholarship\, mentorship\, and the founding of the Women of Color Quilters Network\, she has transformed the cultural landscape\, bringing international recognition to quilting as both fine art and historical record. Her extraordinary impact has been recognized with numerous honors\, including the Bess Lomax Hawes NEA National Heritage Fellowship\, a United States Artists Fellowship\, and an American Craft Council Honorary Fellowship. DESCRIPTION:Curious about cyanotype? Join us for an introduction to this historic photographic process\, where light and chemistry come together to create striking\, image-based prints. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, participants will explore both foundational and expanded cyanotype techniques. We’ll be working with high-quality Hahnemühle 300gsm watercolor paper and pre-treated fabric sheets\, with a focus on elevating the process through hand-coating and experimental toning. Using materials like tea\, coffee\, and red wine\, we’ll shift traditional blue tones into a range of sepia\, slate\, and deep eggplant hues. \nWhether you’re new to cyanotype or looking to push the process further\, this session offers a supportive environment to experiment and explore. \nLogistics & Flow: \nThis workshop will follow a 3-hour staggered format to allow for movement between processes. Indoors\, we’ll use a dimmed area for hand-coating paper and set up a toning station during the final hour. In turn\, they’ve built a ravenous and loyal following across the country\, selling out clubs and theaters throughout the US each year. ‘Tailing the Ghost’ was recorded entirely on the road\, with the majority of the songs being cut almost entirely live.  It is Mo Lowda’s most cohesive\, yet explorative album to date.  The band tours year around\, often playing over 90 shows a year.

Brownstone w/Live Band\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJune 19 @ 4:45 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Admission\n\n\n/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre:\n\n\n\n\nR&B/Soul \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 6th Annual Juneteenth Commemoration\, Celebration\, and Concert returns to Levitt Pavilion Dayton on Friday\, June 19\, from 4:45 PM to 9 PM with this year’s theme: Legacy of Freedom III. \nPresented in partnership with Home of Urban Creative Arts\, this free community celebration centers education\, culture\, remembrance\, and joy through an evening of performances\, interactive experiences\, and live music in the heart of downtown Dayton. \n4:45 PM – 5:45 PM\nThe evening begins with the pre-show special “Boots on the Ground\,” featuring a short educational presentation and homage to local and national individuals who have fought and continue to fight for freedom\, followed by community Southern soul line dancing. \n6:00 PM – 7:30 PM\nThroughout the evening\, guests can experience African drumming and dance\, poetry\, heritage performances\, live audience participation moments\, a live choir\, food sculptures and culinary demonstrations\, face painting\, sound bowls\, massage chairs\, food trucks\, giveaways\, and more. \nFamilies can also explore the Mobile Bookstore\, receive free youth books while supplies last\, connect with local African American authors\, and engage with curated literacy-focused activities celebrating the power of reading\, storytelling\, and cultural preservation. \n7:30 PM – 9:00 PM\nThe night concludes with a featured concert performance by legendary Grammy-nominated R&B group Brownstone\, featuring a live band. Known for defining the sound of ’90s R&B with rich harmonies and timeless hits including “If You Love Me\,” “Grapevyne\,” and “5 Miles to Empty\,” Brownstone first rose to acclaim as Michael Jackson’s first signing to MJJ Music. \nToday\, the group continues to bring their signature soulful sound to audiences across the country\, connecting generations of R&B fans through powerful vocals and unforgettable live performances.
