This exhibition follows Wyeth’s entire career and looks at a specifically darker thread within his oeuvre of troubling and unnerving imagery. Unsettled is divided into three distinct sections: “Strangers and Specters;” “Natural and Supernatural Worlds;” and “Haunted Places and Disturbing Spaces.” Drawn from museums and private collections from across the country\, the DAI is the exclusive Ohio venue and the final stop for this major traveling exhibition. Over the 25 years of painting\, her style continues to change and evolve. She has created a diverse range of work for this show. Susanne has a B.S. degree in education from Valparaiso University and a master’s degree in differentiated instruction from Graceland University. She is a self-taught artist. Professionally she taught jr. high language arts and also independently designed. perennial gardens for many years After two life changing medical events\, her teaching career ended\, but by making some modifications in technique she continued to paint. DESCRIPTION:From April 19 through May 8 the Burnell R. Roberts Triangle Gallery and other galleries in Building 13 will exhibit artwork by students graduating from Sinclair with an Associate of Arts\, Art degree. The graduates are in charge of both selecting works from their portfolios to exhibit as well as installing the show. Exhibiting artists include Amanda Agee\, Jesper Beckholt\, Joe Blackwell\, Grace Bucy\, Sarah Butler\, Autumn Copeland\, Dalton Craport\, Jordan Cullen\, Estevan Dougherty\, Lucas Dunlap\, Abigail Flanagan\, Ashton Houghton\, Gabby Lindsey\, Olivia Martinez\, Macy McDowell\, Diane Nguyen\, Ethan Rebholz\, Charles Edward Rice III\, Alexander Rothery\, and Bryan Woodroof. There will be an open house reception on May 1 from 4:30pm-6pm in the 4th Floor Atrium of Building 13. The galleries are located at the corner of West Fifth and Perry Street in Building 13 on the 4th Floor. DESCRIPTION:The museum’s pop-up exhibit\, SELFie: The Power Within\, will be in the Main Library’s Opportunity Space @ St. Clair in May. Patrons can let their selfies tell stories of strength\, growth\, and self-love. The photos that are taken will celebrate the real\, unfiltered moments of mental health\, with hopes of breaking the stigma surrounding it\, thus allowing patrons to explore the power of being their authentic selves. \nA reception opening the exhibit will be held on Thursday\, May 1\, from 6:30-8 pm\, in the Main Library’s Atrium. Local advocates and mental health professionals will be present. All ages are welcome to attend the exhibit throughout the month\, including the reception.

SUMMARY:Community Workshop – Flourish and Flow: An Oil Painting Journey
DESCRIPTION:Our artist-led workshops are designed to make community connections between our guests\, local artists\, and The Dayton Art Institute through conversation and artmaking. Flourish and Flow: An Oil Painting Journey Date: Thursdays\, April 10\, 17 and 24\, and May 1 and 8 – 5:30–7:30 p.m Cost: $100 for museum members; $125 for non-members Ages: 18+ In this multi-session workshop series\, local artist Jamaal Durr leads participants through an exploration of the fundamentals of oil painting. Sessions will focus on layering\, blending\, and texture while developing skills through the creation of personalized artwork featuring birth flowers. Jamaal Durr\, a Contemporary Artist\, is recognized for his figurative works that intimately blend reality and the surreal. Using materials like oil paint\, charcoal\, and graphite\, he explores themes of identity and self-reflection through his timely narratives. Jamaal has expanded his capacity within the realm of Art\, having also gained experience as a Curator\, Teacher\, and Muralist. Jamaal is primarily self-taught\, having only received a couple of years of formal training at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton\, OH and a brief stint studying architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn\, NY.
