SUMMARY:Introductory Workshop – Sewing Skill Square
DESCRIPTION:A 4-hour crash course on how to use a sewing machine. Skill Squares are designed for students who have never touched a sewing machine. This workshop introduces essential sewing fundamentals through a guided Skill Square exercise\, followed by a small finished project so you leave with something you made. What is the Sewing Skill Square? The Sewing Skill Square is a tool developed by MADE that walks you through over a dozen essential machine techniques on a single piece of fabric. It is designed to help you practice\, make mistakes\, and build confidence in a low-pressure way. You’re ready for Skill Squares if you: Have never used a sewing machine Want a clear starting point Are brand new to sewing What You’ll Learn Students complete a guided Skill Square sampler and learn the core mechanics of machine sewing\, including: Sewing straight lines with control Turning corners with the needle down Backstitching at the start and end of seams Sewing curves slowly and accurately Practicing consistent seam allowance Pressing fabric edges cleanly with an iron Sewing a simple hem Constructing a folded piece with clean seams Finishing raw edges with a zigzag stitch to prevent fraying Turning and pressing a project right-side out What You’ll Make The Sewing Skill Square itself is an exercise where you will stitch more than ten times while practicing different techniques. Because we know how important it is to leave with something you feel proud of\, the workshop ends with a small bookmark project. You will choose from a variety of fabric scraps and put your new skills to the test in a finished piece you can take home. What’s Included Use of a studio sewing machine A complete sewing kit with all tools you’ll need Fabric for both practice\, including your Sewing Skill Square\, and your final bookmark project No need to bring anything—just come ready to learn. Duration: Single-session workshop (4 hours) Please Note: All students are required to use studio machines.
