SUMMARY:Photographer Vincent J. Musi: Where The Wild Things Are
DESCRIPTION:In this enlightening talk\, Vincent shares highlights from more than 30 years traveling the world for National Geographic\, documenting a changing planet – from close to home\, to along the iconic Route 66\, to what it’s like to live at the base of a volcano\, to ancient Sicilian mummies. One story that captured his heart took readers “Inside Animal Minds” (National Geographic cover story\, March 2008) and included a deep study of birds\, apes\, dolphins\, and dogs\, revealing a wide range of emotions and communication skills. With his trademark dry humor\, Vincent takes us into the world of animal cognition and on a tour of some of the world’s most unusual pets\, including a hilarious romp through his The Year Of The Dogs project. You may never look at man’s best friend the same way again! \nSince 1993\, Vincent J. Musi has been a regular contributor to National Geographic\, covering a vast range of subjects from the Texas Hill Country to the legendary Route 66\, to the ancient crypts of Sicily and life at the base of volcanoes. A specialist in animal portraits\, his recent work includes projects on domestication\, intelligence and cognition. When Vincent’s work shifted from documenting the world to photographing animals\, he knew he was in over his head and feared it would end his career. He’s still unsure\, as he works with subjects who routinely growl\, bark\, roar\, bite\, hiss\, claw\, poop\, or pee… on him. When the world got smaller during COVID\, Vincent and his wife\, former White House Photographer Callie Shell\, created the Unleashed Studio\, where he taps into his inner Dr. Dolittle to capture unique dog portraits. As a way to amuse himself (and us)\, Vince imagines the inner lives of his subjects and shares often side-splitting and sometimes poignant life stories from their perspective. The weekly Instagram series\, which grew into a book – initially planned to last one year – is called The Year Of The Dogs. The project and posts went viral and the world won’t let him end it. Vincent believes that everything we learn about animals teaches us everything we don’t know about ourselves.

SUMMARY:Christmas With C.S. Lewis
DESCRIPTION:In the early years of his young adult life\, C.S. Lewis believed the story of Christ’s birth was nothing more than feel-good myth. That all changed after a particular encounter with his great friend and fellow author\, J.R.R. Tolkien. Although both men loved mythology in general\, Tolkien was convinced that the Jesus myth was the one true myth. That was the start of Lewis’ journey from Atheism to Christianity. From that point on\, Christmas\, for Lewis\, took on an entirely different meaning. In this intimate portrayal\, we find him at his home near Oxford on Christmas Eve hosting a group of Americans who are Christmas-ing in England. They are about to experience an unforgettable assortment of Yuletide recollections which stimulates a whole range of emotions – curiosity\, laughter\, gladness and even some tears. Above all\, they will discover how that encounter with Tolkien forever changed Lewis’ Christmas celebrations.

SUMMARY:Vienna Boys Choir: Christmas In Vienna
DESCRIPTION:The illustrious group of child musicians has been delighting music lovers across the globe for six centuries with their purity of tone\, distinctive charm and popular repertoire. The enormously popular chorus is composed of four touring choirs that hail from dozens of nations and together give over 300 concerts a year around the world. CHRISTMAS IN VIENNA showcases these gifted musicians with voices of unforgettable beauty in an extraordinary program featuring Austrian folk songs\, classical masterpieces\, popular songs\, and\, of course\, holiday favorites. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram raves “There’s no more gratifying sound than that of children singing. And there’s no more polished ensemble of children’s voices than the Vienna Boys Choir.” \nThe Vienna Boys Choir is one of the most famous choirs in the world\, and one of the oldest. Boys have been singing at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel since at least 1296. In 1498 Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. established a Court Chapel in Vienna where he declared that there were to be boys among the singers\, thus laying the foundation for the Vienna Boys Choir. Today\, the former imperial ensemble is a private\, non-profit organization with a primary and grammar school for 330 boys and girls between the ages of six and nineteen with a focus on choral music and singing. The Vienna Boys Choir’s education\, listed by UNESCO as cultural heritage\, is open to all\, regardless of origin\, gender\, nationality\, or religion. \nThe four boys’ choirs perform almost 300 concerts per year\, with almost half a million people attending. Since 1924\, the choirs have completed more than 1000 tours in 100 different countries\, clocking up a staggering 29\,000 concerts. \nOn Sundays\, the choirs sing mass in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the men’s chorus of the Vienna State Opera. They have performed with orchestras led by conductors such as Joana Mallwitz\, Zubin Mehta\, Riccardo Muti\, Christian Thielemann\, Simone Young\, and Franz Welser-Möst; and appear at the Salzburg Festival and at the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic. \nThe Vienna Boys Choir partners with UNICEF and several other charities. In 2023\, the Choir celebrated its 525th anniversary. To mark the occasion\, Deutsche Grammophon released a live album of the anniversary concert in Vienna’s Musikverein\, Decca Classics released a box set of 21 CDs\, and Böhlau released a book on the Choir’s history. In 2024\, the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir jointly received the European Culture Award. \nErasmus Baumgartner has been serving as Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys Choir and the entire Campus Augarten since 2023. The Choir’s President is Erich Arthold.

SUMMARY:Capitol Fools
DESCRIPTION:What happens when Washington\, D.C.’s premier\, political satire group – the Capitol Steps – call it quits after nearly 40 years? Most folks would agree that it was a great run\, and the story would end there. \nBut an intrepid group of cast members and a co-writer would not go quietly into that good night. This band of fools reflected on a world without musical\, political satire\, and didn’t like what they saw. And just like that the CAPITOL FOOLS were born. \nWhile foolish enough to embark on this new journey\, they were smart enough to not reinvent the wheel. Fast-paced\, laugh out loud show? Check. Equal opportunity offenders? Check. Skewering both sides of the aisle? Check. If a “Steps-style show” is wrong\, they don’t want to be right. \nThe CAPITOL FOOLS hold up a mirror to our crazy political culture\, providing hilarious song parodies and foolish reflections that continue to inspire belly-laughter. Audiences will continue to see cast members from past seasons of the Capitol Steps performing all the beloved bits\, the mind-boggling backward talking spoonerisms\, break-neck costume changes\, over-the-top impressions\, and all-new song parodies reflecting the day’s news. They will give you a memory that will last a lunch time. The spirit\, irreverence and DNA of the Capitol Steps lives on with the CAPITOL FOOLS!
