Tell us a bit about yourself and your business.
My name is Veronica Williams. Everyone calls me Vee. My partner, Brandon White, and I are the owners / operators of the The White House Event Center located in downtown Dayton! Our event space is a multi-purpose venue for any special occasion. Life is an event. So we celebrate everything! It’s contemporary and industrial style with high ceilings and exposed duct work. The best part is everything is all white. Yes, white. We specialize in intimate events such as weddings, receptions, class reunions, graduations, baby showers, birthday parties and much more.
What made you decide to open your own small business and how long have you been in operation?
Brandon and I decided to open The White House Event Center because as we were planning personal events, we noticed there weren’t many venues that catered to smaller guest counts. After doing research, we saw there was a need for a smaller venue to cater to those people who didn’t need a place as large as the convention center.
What do you enjoy about working in downtown Dayton?
We are Daytonians, so we love everything about working downtown! There are so many people and small businesses who contribute daily to the growth and development of our downtown. We enjoy the camaraderie, the pride, the energy, the diversity, and, most of all, the people. The amount of love and support we have received since opening has been amazing. Not just downtown Dayton but the entire city of Dayton! We also enjoy watching the revitalization and all the new things coming in the heart of our city.
Tell us something about your business that may surprise people to learn.
People will be surprised to learn that in 1981, one year after Brandon and I were born, Boston’s Bistro and Pub was in this exact same location. The owner, David Boston, showed up one day and gave us some great history about the place. Surprisingly enough, there were apartments above them like there are today.
How is your business coping with the pandemic and how can people support you now?
We are taking the pandemic one day at a time and we are pressing forward. We adhere to all city and state mandates, as well as the health department guidelines. As things start to slowly open back up, we have decided to operate at a reduced capacity. For those that do host events with us, we provide masks and sanitizing stations, and provide a setup that promotes social distancing so we do our part in helping to keep people safe.
