The community is invited to join in a public memorial ceremony that will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Oregon District to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the lives lost in a mass shooting on Fifth Street in the district in 2019. The FUDGE Foundation – which was started by Dion Green, who lost his father, Derrick Fudge, in the shooting – is planning the event to remember the lives of the nine people killed in the shooting, as well as those who were forever changed by the event. The memorial events will be held in front of Blind Bob’s Bar at 430 E. Fifth St., and will include a candle lighting service, music, a moment of silence for 9 minutes to remember those killed, and community prayer. There will also be resources available to support victims of trauma, including mental health and support group information. Fifth Street in the Oregon District will be closed to traffic from 2 to 9 p.m. for the event.
