An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until Sunday, April 23, 2023
Dayton Metro Library is proud to host EVICTED, a powerful exhibit that will be on display at the Main Library, in the Opportunity Space at St. Clair, from Monday, February 13 to Sunday, April 23.
EVICTED allows patrons in the Dayton area a chance to step into the world of low-income renter eviction – one of America’s most devastating issues – and is sponsored by an American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship, Sinclair Community College, and Miami Valley Fair Housing, Inc.
For those interested, guided tours will be available on the following days: Wednesdays, 10 am-2 pm; Thursdays, 5-8 pm; Fridays, 11 am-5 pm; and Saturdays, 9 am-2 pm. Email Katherine.rowell@sinclair.edu to schedule a time.
DML will also host the following EVICTED companion programs:
Exhibit Opening Reception
Monday, February 13, Main Library, Eichelberger Forum
6-7 pm – Reception
7-8 pm – Screening of Right to Counsel Documentary with Legal Aid Dayton as a guest panel
Registration for this program is not required, but it is suggested.
Facing Eviction and Housing Insecurity: Listening to Community Voices
Sunday, April 23, 2-4 pm, Main Library, Eichelberger Forum
The Facing Project will present a theatrical performance of stories about eviction and housing insecurity from those in our community who have experienced it.
Registration for this event is also suggested.
About EVICTED: Because a family facing eviction is a devastating event in a long chain of problems, the National Building Museum created an exhibit in response to this national crisis. Inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by Matthew Desmond, the exhibit ran from April 2018 to May 2019. Since then, the Museum created a touring exhibit, with current data, that has been visiting smaller venues. DML is proud to be the last stop on its tour.
