Welcome Dayton, in cooperation with community partners, will host a World Refugee Day event on Saturday, June 10. World Refugee Day is an annual event designated by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of refugees.
The community is invited to celebrate and welcome Dayton’s refugee community at the Dayton Metro Library (215 E. Third St.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Eichelberger Forum, main floor).
Refugees now living in the Dayton area have arrived from locations including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.
The event is free and open to the public and includes performances, food, music, and presentations by Dayton’s refugee community. Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley will accept donations of the following items for the Refugee Resettlement Program: bath towels, paper towels, twin bed sheets, blankets, and pillows, and ethnic shampoo/conditioner.
Welcome Dayton is presenting the event in collaboration with the Dayton Metro Library, Miami Valley Urban League, Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley, Brunner Literacy Center, and the Miami Valley Career Technology Center’s Aspire Program.
