Choosing Eva Buttacavoli and Patrick Martin to be my Humans turned out to be among the best decisions this downtown diva made. I’m Vesper Linda Blair Buttacavoli-Martin, and I adopted my parents last September. I’m a lady with refined tastes, and I’ve been thrilled with my choice! Mom is the executive director of the Dayton Visual Arts Center, which means she can’t help but be attracted to beautiful things. The odds were totally in my favor the day we met at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Now I wake up each day promptly at 6 a.m. in my tastefully appointed loft-style condo in the heart of downtown Dayton.
Since moving downtown, I have been knitting close bonds within my community. I selflessly volunteer for the neighborhood watch, alerting my Humans when I spy passersby outside. There’s a lot of ground to cover when your home has huge windows that showcase expansive collections of downtown Dayton’s skyline. Those giant windows let in lots of pools of warm sunlight where I can spend a relaxing afternoon dismembering my squeaky chicken.
When I’m not relaxing at home, I’m putting my keen senses to work at the office. I take my role guarding locally produced artwork very seriously. Not only does DVAC have me to thank for my task of security chief, I also play the part of therapist for my coworkers, providing them with opportunities to pat, scratch, and cuddle me when they are feeling stressed.
My commute to work is a breeze; I live just a few blocks from the office. Walks around the neighborhood offer so many unique features to see and sniff: The fresh grass and flowers at Cooper Park, located next to the new Main Branch of the Dayton Metro Library, are exquisitely comfy under my toes. There are plenty of friends to play with at the Deeds Point Dog Park, and the patio at The Dayton Beer Company’s downtown bierhall is a first-rate spot for people watching. I get to stretch out with a cool drink of water from the pet bowl while Mom and Dad sip craft brews.
Life at Cooper Lofts and running a busy gallery means rubbing elbows with Dayton’s elite. Some of my favorite clients include Ron Rollins, Ken Neufeld, and Chuck Vella. They have excellent taste. Kind of like chicken, I think. But at the end of the day, a successful gallery has to move product, and my adorable mug is usually the winning strategy. How can you say “no” to this face?
