Black Midwest Symposium Hosted by Black Midwest Initiative

The Black Midwest Initiative hosts a biennial symposium that features artists, activists, academics, and other community-involved people to discuss issues related to Black life in the Midwest. Past symposiums have been hosted in Minneapolis and Detroit, but in 2024 it is coming to Dayton!
The third biennial symposium unfolds under the illuminating theme of “Adaptive Reuse,” a beacon for change in the Midwest’s urban landscapes.
This year’s theme, “Adaptive Reuse,” is more than a concept– it’s a call to action for Black communities and allies across the Midwest. Together, we’ll delve into strategies for reimagining the spaces around us, transforming neglected landscapes into thriving hubs of culture, sustainability, and innovation.
