John “Papa” Gros is a New Orleans native who blends funk, rock, jazz, and blues to create a sound that is both innovative and unmistakably rooted in the Crescent City. Launching his solo career in the early 1990s, Gros gained attention from marquee artists like George Porter Jr. and Snooks Eaglin. He led Papa Grows Funk for twelve years, recording six albums before returning to solo work with “River’s On Fire” in 2016 and “Central City” in 2020. Known for his infectious live performances, Gros has captivated audiences across the U.S. and Europe with his versatile musicianship and relentless grooves.
