Dayton Police Prepare to Open New Substation

City leaders say a new temporary police substation is expected to open early next month after approving the three-year lease in late January. The substation will be located at 30 S. Main Street, near the Greater Dayton RTA’s bus hub. The Dayton Police Department’s central business district uniformed patrol, bike, and walking patrols will operate out of the substation, as well as outreach for people experiencing homelessness and mental health episodes.

“This is a way for us to increase presence and continue to work on downtown safety issues,” Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein tells the Dayton Daily News.

A permanent downtown police station is expected to be built at the corner of East Fourth and St. Clair Streets in the coming years.
