“We Won’t Move!”: How the Model Cities Program Sparked a Community Movement in Dayton

Learn how this federal program empowered one community to stand up for their West Dayton neighborhood. Drawing from records in the library’s special collections, we will discuss Dayton’s role in the Model Cities federal program of the 1960s. We’ll look at how the Progressive Wolf Creek Neighborhood Association—formed in a primarily African-American community of Inner West Dayton—capitalized on this program to have their voices heard and neighborhood needs met.
