July 28, 2022, (DAYTON, Ohio) – Get ready for a special edition of First Friday on Friday, August 4!  The arts and creativity take center stage this month as we prepare for Art in the City. First Friday favorites like live music, food and drink specials at downtown restaurants, and deals at unique shops and boutiques will be in full swing as new art exhibits go on display at downtown’s signature galleries and other downtown businesses. There are plenty of ways to start your celebration of the visual and performing arts downtown!

Stop by some of your favorite downtown hotspots as they’re transformed into a Party on the Patio from 6 to 8 p.m.! First Friday also marks the first day of voting for the 2023 Juried Art Show. The Dayton Society of Artists has selected 30 of the area’s most talented new and emerging artists to take part in this year’s contest. Voting will go live on Dayton.com on Friday, August 4, and will continue until noon on Friday, August 18. Find a map of this year’s participating locations and take a closer look at the entries in the 2023 Art in the City Event Guide.

This month’s First Friday is the official pre-party to the downtown-wide Art in the City event, but it’s just the beginning of the fun. Be sure to join us from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, as 300+ local artists of all genres bring live performances, hands-on demonstrations, community projects, an artisan market, a Juried Art Show, and more to downtown’s core. A map and listing of this year’s events can be found on the Art in the City website and Facebook event.

Check out the individual First Friday listings below, and remember the most up-to-date event listings can be found in the online calendar published on the Downtown Dayton Partnership’s website.
