The City of Dayton has approved the $1.4 million purchase of a vacant Fourth Street property that will eventually be home to a new police station. An emergency ordinance for the purchase was approved earlier this month. Dayton Police tell the Dayton Business Journal that they’ve been working to find a location and build a stronger presence downtown for several years. The department’s current station for the central business district, which houses patrol officers, supervisors, and support for downtown, is located on Salem Avenue. According to the Dayton Business Journal, once the purchase is finalized, the building currently on the property will likely be demolished. A timeline for the project has not been announced.
