Dayton Developer Announces New Acquisitions Downtown

Mike ColvinFast Facts

Dayton-based Woodard Development is the new owner of three buildings in the Oregon District. The firm has purchased the Johnston and Schaefer buildings on E. Fifth Street and the former United Business Service building on S. Jefferson Street. The two Fifth Street buildings are mixed-use, containing apartments on the upper floors and retail shops on the first floor. The nearby UBS property is now a vacant warehouse originally built in 1900. Woodard Development has no major changes planned to the Fifth Street building but plans to renovate the fully-occupied apartment units as they naturally turn over. No details have been announced for the future of the UBS building.

Woodard Development already has a significant role in recent redevelopments across downtown with more than a dozen residential and commercial projects. Jason Woodard, principal with Woodard Development, tells the Dayton Business Journal that he’s excited to continue the firm’s downtown progress with the new purchases. “They are very iconic buildings within the Oregon District and we want to be good stewards of them and continue a good lineup of tenants,” Woodard said.
