Volunteers come together for litter pick-up, mulching, graffiti removal, and more on April 26.
April 26, 2025 (DAYTON, Ohio) – Ahead of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly taking place in Dayton this Memorial Day, volunteers from around the community are working together to help beautify Downtown Dayton. More than 100 volunteers have registered to take part in the First Bloom Community Cleanup with a day of cleaning, painting, planting, and more on Saturday, April 26.
“Keeping Downtown Dayton beautiful is a team effort and it’s been so inspiring to see how many people are eager to help,” said Syron Townsend, First Bloom organizer and Community Partnerships Manager for the Downtown Dayton Partnership. “On the surface, this event is about doing some spring cleaning for Downtown Dayton, but in actuality, it’s about all of us coming together to show how much we love our community and want to take care of it.”
After checking in, volunteers will be assigned to one of the many projects taking place simultaneously across Downtown Dayton. Projects have been pre-determined with suggestions and guidance from a variety of Downtown Dayton partners and organizations. Montgomery County Commissioner Carolyn Rice will be on hand at the beginning of the day to thank everyone for volunteering and officially send them off to their project sites. Once the day’s projects are complete, volunteers will celebrate their hard work with a live DJ, giveaways, and food generously donated by The Pizza Factory.
Due to an outpouring of interest from members of the community, volunteer sign-ups for the First Bloom Community Cleanup are closed. Volunteer opportunities for future Downtown Dayton Partnership events can be found as they become available at downtowndayton.org/about-us/volunteer/.
The First Bloom Community Cleanup is a program of the Downtown Dayton Partnership sponsored by CenterPoint Energy and with additional support from The Pizza Factory.
