BARITONE HUE is a one-person spoken word poetry performance that blends theatrical storytelling, lyrical verse, and visual atmosphere to explore themes of faith, creative rebirth, and Black cultural identity.
The show follows poet Leroy D. Bean’s transformative journey to Paris, where he traced the footsteps of James Baldwin and reconnected with his spirituality, self-worth, and purpose as an artist. The performance integrates personal narrative with crafted poetry, using humor, vulnerability, and layered metaphors to guide the audience through a multidimensional experience. The show invites viewers to reflect on the power of surrendering to faith, the tension between self-doubt and belief, and the beauty of navigating life as a Black creative seeking alignment.
BARITONE HUE resonates deeply by offering audiences a compelling artistic exploration of transformation and transcendence through the lens of spoken word.
