If She Can Do It, I Can, Too! by author De’Shawna Yamini. A children’s book about Black women, created by Black women, but for everyone! While serving as coordinator of the AAMI at Sinclair College, De’Shawna completed coursework in Black Studies alongside her students. She received an assignment to complete a children’s book about any subject in Black history. She wrote: “If She Can Do It, I Can, too!” Friends and family encouraged her to publish the book, which is now a reality! This children’s book is based on Dr. Long’s interactions with his six nieces and nephews. Uncles and other father figures like him matter. As a child, Dr. Long did not realize how his love for drawing connected to career fields like engineering.
