Dayton Metro Library is excited to host author and musician Brendan Slocumb for its Executive Director’s Author Series, in the Main Library’s Eichelberger Forum, Thursday, May 11, at 6 pm.
A moderated discussion with Mr. Slocumb will take place as he discusses he debut, best-selling novel, The Violin Conspiracy and his upcoming novel, Symphony of Secrets.
The Violin Conspiracy tells the story of a young Black musician who discovers that his old family fiddle is a priceless Stradivarius. When it becomes stolen the night before the most prestigious classical music competition, he risks everything to find it.
Symphony of Secrets is about Bern Hendricks, a music professor who discovers a shocking secret about the most famous American composer of all time, whose music may have been stolen from a Black Jazz Age prodigy named Josephine Reed. Determined to uncover the truth that a powerful organization wants to keep hidden, Bern will stop at nothing to right history’s wrongs and give Josephine the recognition she deserves.
Mr. Slocomb holds a degree in music education with concentrations on violin and viola and has close to 25 years of experience in teaching music to k-12 students. He has been recognized many times with educational accolades, has performed with numerous symphonies, and is the founder of Hands Across American, a nonprofit based in the Philippines, which offers support to the Berea School of Arts in Manila.
This event is sponsored by Friends of the Dayton Metro Library. Registration is not required, but it is recommended.
