Welcome Dayton, in collaboration with community partners, will host a World Refugee Day celebration on Saturday, June 22. World Refugee Day is an annual event designated by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength, and determination of refugees. The community is invited to celebrate and welcome Dayton’s refugee community at the Dayton Metro Library (215 E. Third St.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Eichelberger Forum, main floor). Admission is free. Dayton’s World Refugee Day event will include performances, music, interactive activities, educational displays, a panel discussion, and light refreshments. Children’s activities will also be offered. Refugees now living in the Dayton area have arrived from locations including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley will accept donations of the following items for the Refugee Resettlement Program: bath towels, ethnic shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, hand soap, body wash, new twin bed sheets, blankets and pillows.
