Flyer Route Changing as Ridership Rises

Mike Colvin Fast Facts

The Greater Dayton RTA‘s free Flyer shuttle has changed its route and hours. The free bus service launched in 2018 and travels between downtown and the University of Dayton campus. Several RTA routes were altered at the beginning of 2023, including the Flyer. The free shuttle now runs from Third Street downtown to Brown Street near UD’s campus weekdays 6 a.m. to midnight and Saturdays 4 p.m. to midnight.

Despite a recent loss of sponsorships leading to the route changes, RTA leadership says the Flyer remains one of their most popular routes and ridership has increased monthly for the past 17 months. Flyer ridership in the fourth quarter of 2022 was higher than pre-COVID levels during the same time in 2019. The fourth quarter of 2022 gave the free shuttle it’s second highest quarterly ridership since the shuttle launched.
