Sinclair College has been awarded a $120,000 grant to support its prison education program. The college is one of 22 institutions nationwide to receive funding. Sinclair’s Advanced Job Training program, through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, provides postsecondary education to prison inmates. Enrollment in Sinclair’s prison education program more than doubled from 2020 to 2021 and now includes more than 5,000 students. Incarcerated students can choose from more than 40 degree and certificate programs for their studies. Students also learn important skills for rejoining the workforce after their release, like how to interview and create a resume. The Advanced Job Training program provides education and training to 28 prisons and six juvenile facilities across Ohio. Sinclair says participants earned more than 5,300 certificates and degrees through the program in 2021 alone.
