Smales Pretzel Bakery has announced the next chapter in its more than 100-year-long history will soon unfold at the Dayton Arcade. This will be the second location for the long-time favorite Dayton brand. According to the Dayton Daily News, pretzel dough for the brand’s iconic hard and soft pretzels will still be made at Smales’ current location on Xenia Avenue before being rolled, boiled, and baked at the 300-square-feet location in the Arcade.

“We’ve always believed in Dayton and Dayton has always believed in us,” said Emma Smales, fifth-generation owner of Smales Pretzel Bakery. “This just feels like another way for us to say we believe in Dayton. We believe in downtown. We believe in the Arcade. We think it’s going to be successful.”

This is not the first time that Smales Pretzel Bakery will have a presence in the Dayton Arcade; the business had a stand there from 1913 until the 1980s. A date for the new storefront has not yet been announced, but the team at Smales hopes to be open later this year.
