Downtown Dayton is welcoming hundreds of international guests this week as the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session begins. Vehicle traffic will be restricted around parts of downtown with limited pedestrian access through Monday, May 26. A majority of downtown businesses will remain open during the event and pedestrian access will be maintained even to those businesses located inside of the NATO Village perimeter.
While NATO Parliamentary Assembly sessions are closed to the public, the community is invited to attend various events during and after the event. Free tickets are available for The Dayton Dialogue, a collection of thought-based discussions taking place at the Roger Glass Center for the Arts. The “Think Freedom” installation is making its first U.S. appearance at the Dayton Arcade through the first week of June. The installation made its first appearance at the Sarajevo City Hall in 2015. Finally, the Old Courthouse on Courthouse Square has been transformed into a museum and will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May 27 through 29.
The Greater Dayton RTA will be rerouting all routes that travel through Wright Stop Plaza through May 26 to accommodate the security perimeter. Additionally, the Flyer will be offering extended weekend hours from 8:00 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25. More information can be found at iriderta.org.
