Nearly 500 Local Artists Take Part in Art in the City

Mike ColvinFast Facts

Thousands of guests and hundreds of artists came together to create one day of community celebration in Downtown Dayton. The ninth annual Art in the City celebration of the visual and performing arts took place earlier this month, but there are still ways to enjoy the festivities through August and beyond.

Voting in the Juried Art Show is open now on Dayton.com through noon on Friday, August 15. The Dayton Society of Artists juried 16 local artists to partner with downtown businesses to create new works of art. The artist of the piece with the most votes at the end of voting will receive $250. All 16 entrants are on display now at the Dayton Convention Center and can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The LeMonde StudioHarmonies” installations will have a home in Downtown Dayton throughout August. Each of the four interactive and larger-than-life music boxes features a crank that visitors can turn to play music provided by local musicians at Courthouse Square, the Dayton Convention Center, Levitt Pavilion, and the Oregon District through August. Special thanks to presenting sponsor PNC, and supporting sponsors, the Bob Ross Auto Group, Grunder Landscaping Co., and WYSO Public Radio for helping bring these installations to Dayton.

Downtown Dayton is home to several signature galleries, murals, and public art pieces. A map of locations open to visitors year-round and a self-guided arts walking tour can be found on the Downtown Dayton Partnership website. Art in the City attendees are invited to share their feedback for the chance to win $50 in Downtown Dollars now through Friday, August 15.
