Tell us a bit about yourself and your business. What made you decide to open your own small business and how long have you been in operation?
My name is Joe Abboud. My father and I are co-owners of the Stop-n-Save store on Third Street downtown. We have been open since 1997. We are a grocery store located in downtown Dayton that sells fresh produce, has a meat/deli department, and also offers Hunt Brothers Pizza and Broaster Chicken.
We decided to open our location because we thought it would be helpful to the community to have a grocery store located downtown.
What do you enjoy about working in downtown Dayton?
The most enjoyable part of working downtown is the new and local people who visit our store everyday. We like the local, loyal customers and the vibe from different people who are part of the community.
Tell us something about your business that may surprise people to learn.
People are surprised to learn how large the store is and how nice it is, and that it is fully stocked. The exterior looks smaller than the interior, but it’s a large store. It’s roughly 6000 square feet!
Also, we are happy to accommodate any item requests. If a customer comes in and they are looking for a certain item, we will order it for them if it isn’t already in stock.
How is your business coping with the pandemic and how can people support you now?
Sales have dropped during the pandemic with so many people working from home, and we also cut our hours back. Hopefully we will recover soon. It is always helpful when people come in. Small purchases or large purchases are welcome.
