Demolition work has begun on the nearly 100-year-old Ohmer Garage, located at 26-34 E. First St. The garage had deteriorated past the point of being restored, including water damage and failing walls and foundation, and became a threat to the structural integrity of the adjacent Victoria Theatre. Dayton Live, along with the Montgomery County Landbank and the City of Dayton, determined that removing the garage is the most effective way to protect the theater from damage. Demolition is expected to last approximately three months and will include measures to control dust and protect public health and safety during the process. Demolition will provide access for repairs to Victoria Theatre, and environmental assessments will aid future planning for the property.
