The last few weeks have seen a flurry of food news, as multiple local businesses made headlines regarding upcoming expansion plans.
Piccolo Orsetto, the newest project from the owners of Wheat Penny and Meadowlark, plans to open soon at 521 Wayne Ave. In a recent social media post, owner Liz Valenti gave a video tour of the new restaurant’s interior and several features. Piccolo Orsetto plans to offer breakfast, brunch, and lunch, as well as a cooking school, private party room, and a cookbook library.
The 6888 Kitchen Incubator celebrated its second anniversary and broke ground on Phase II of its facility expansion at The Dayton Arcade. According to a press release, Phase II is expected to take five to six months and will add two private kitchen pods, a dedicated community and catering kitchen, a retail storefront, and additional storage.
Elsewhere in The Arcade, Road Runner Mobile Espresso Bar announced it will open its first brick-and-mortar location later this summer, joining several other recent openings in the North Arcade marketplace. Co-Owner Adam Lowe told the Dayton Business Journal, “The history of the Arcade is something that we really love, as well as the community in that area… it just seemed like a very natural next step.”
The Silos Food Hall & Bar announced it would add Friday lunch service and extend its Sunday hours to meet growing customer demand. The new schedule will be 4-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.
Popular Filipino eatery The Lumpia Queen plans to open downtown in the Stratacache Tower, taking over the space that formerly housed Troni’s Pizza and Carmen’s Deli. The Lumpia Queen was previously located in the W. Social Tap & Table food hall, and also has a food truck seen frequently around town.
Another popular local food truck, Veracruz Express, has been operating out of the parking lot of the historical Wympee building while it renovates that space for its brick-and-mortar restaurant. The building most recently housed the restaurant Agnes before that eatery moved to larger space in the Oregon District. Veracruz Express focuses on serving traditional Mexican cuisine.
Downtown Dayton favorite Val’s Bakery announced via social media that it will expand on its success again, opening its third location in downtown Miamisburg. The new venture will be a collaboration with another downtown business, Reduce & Ruse Refillery. The new location is expected to be named Coffeehouse by Val’s Bakery.
